Elle J Rossi grew up in rural Indiana surrounded by great people, a huge family and more animals than she could count. Sadly, there were no vampires or shape shifters lurking about in the woods behind her house. What's a girl to do? Seek them out, that's what! The sites and sounds of the world beckoned, so she left her small town to escape into a creative world full of music - and hopefully rendezvous with a vampire or two. As a full time singer she was able to lose herself in a thousand different songs in a hundred different places, all the while scanning the crowds for those ever elusive beings of the occult.
After meeting the love of her life and settling down, she yearned to find a new and fulfilling creative outlet. Overly fond of the happily ever after, she wondered what it would be like to have her own characters lead her down dark and twisted paths. The very first word on the very first page sealed her fate. She'd found a new love. She'd found her escape.
Now along with weaving haunting tales about the journey to love, she's creating cover art for authors around the world and loving every second of it. For fun, she cranks country music to take her back to her roots, and sings karaoke anytime she gets a chance. Her husband, two children, and three cats that rule the roost keep her company along the way and guarantee she doesn't get lost in the enchanted forest. She wouldn't have it any other way. And, yes, she is still on the lookout for real-life vampires.

What is your
favorite type of monster to write about? Read about? I absolutely love to write about vampires. There is just something so
captivating about them—the richness of their history, the depths of their
faults and triumphs. Vampires are multi-dimensional, never one note. As far as
reading goes, I enjoy reading about all monsters. Anything non-human really
intrigues me.
What do you envision their greatest
characteristic to be? Their worst? Vampires,
most of them anyway, have been around for a long time. Their knowledge, their
street smarts, the depths of their emotions or lack thereof is what sets them
apart from other supernaturals.
What two creatures would you love to
see go toe to toe in a battle? You will be judged for creativity. ;-) Feel free
to describe the battle. I'd love to see
a vampire go up against a zombie. Imagine the brutality of this battle! The
vampire is fast, the zombie is strong and nearly impossible to kill. Who will
tire first? The vamp decapitates the zombie. The zombie still trudges on,
determined to... Who knows? In my opinion, zombies are mindless creatures. I
say the vampire throws him into a stump grinder and calls it a day.
Choose three
of the following and tell us what your creature would do with them, make out of
them, use them for or what reaction they would have to them: an apple, an
gemstone, a silver chain, a fish, a rat, a deer, a toad, a piece of pizza
heavily dosed with garlic, a flower, treasure belonging to someone else, fire,
a spider, a worm, a ball of string, a microphone and speakers, a wooden club, a
mirror, a book, a cemetery, a boat, a moonlight bonfire, a sunny afternoon, a
walk through the forest on an overcast day, a wooden stick, a Popsicle, a
broom, a tree, a lost person, a baby, a body of water, a cross, a cage, wolfs
bane, a rock, a rubber band, a chicken, a rabbit, a cave, rope, or a piece of
candy.
A cross: My vampire would tuck the
cross beneath his button-down shirt, keeping it close to his heart. While some
think vampires have no soul, no religion, this is not true. Vampires are
complex beings. Some carry God and the hope of finding a peaceful ever after
tucked close inside them. This is why they don’t simply walk into the sun.
Others are like inmates on death row…only clutching to hope of Heaven because
the truly fear Hell.
A book: Hundreds of them to escape
the mundane hours while the sun sits high in the sky.
A microphone and speakers: This is
for karaoke night at the lair of course!
What scares
you? I’m scared of finding out that
creatures of lore don’t exist and this has all been a terrible dream.
What is your
monster most afraid of? My vampire is
afraid of something that cannot be helped… He is afraid of the vicious cycle of
watching those he’s grown to care about die. What makes it happy? He’s happy for those brief years in which
he finds someone to spend his time with.
What type of
candy would you be apt to grab? Red
hots! They are the color of blood and made of fire. Give out for Halloween?
He’d give out “kisses” for Halloween.
What do you think is the most mis-construed
idea about vampires? Vampires CAN see
their reflection. Why wouldn’t they be able to?
Which kind
is your favorite? Definitely a brooding
vampire. Vampires should have tortured souls, many regrets, dreams of more...
Does you vampire have an special variation? My vampires cannot feed from one another.
Vampire blood contains toxins that turns to poison once it enters another
vampires system. Sadly, this makes for a lot of emotional and physical problems
should one of my vamps fall in love with another vamp.
