Excerpt:

He sighed and took his hat off to run his fingers through his hair, his frustration with her silence obvious. “Look, I’m sorry…” He looked at her and away, his cheeks turning even darker. His Adams apple bobbed as he gulped, but he brought his gaze back around to meet her gaze again, hungry resolve in his eyes. “I’m sorry for what I did to you in the woods.” He cleared his throat and settled his hat back on his head. She wasn’t staring at his biceps that bulged and flexed with the movement and the warmth in her belly had absolutely nothing to do with attraction. “There’s some powerful chemistry between us, sweetheart,” he finally said on a near growl. “And it just got the better of me. I swear I won’t touch you again until you want me to.”

With each word he spoke, her jaw dropped a little more until she was gaping at him, her brain firing on all cylinders as she processed his belief in his attractions. Okay, he was hot. He had that power thing mingling with some country-boy charm, which she found extremely sexy despite her natural repulsion of all things male. He knew how to ply his electricity in such a way that it made a woman cream with want. His body… The man had a body to die for and those tattoos just begged her to explore them with her fingers and tongue.

Even his confidence was sexy to an extent. Her brain rejected that thought. He was assuming she’d just fall into his lap like some slut. Because you totally did twice before, idiot, Sixteen reminded her with a satisfied chuckle. All that man has to do is lay a kiss on you and you’re a goner.

Her cheeks flushed at the reminder because it was true. He’d kissed her twice and both times she’d fallen prey to his power and that fucking chemistry she wasn’t prepared to defend herself against. It wasn’t as though it was something she’d come into contact with before. Sixteen was the sexual one, the one who discovered the men who wanted to be dominated by a woman. Gyda just let her have her way and pretended it never happened. So yeah, she had no idea how to fight attraction like this.

And he planned to use it against her. Holy shit.

About the Author:

Danica Avet was born and raised in the wilds of South Louisiana (that would be somewhere around Houma) where mosquitoes are big enough to carry off small children and there are only two seasons: hot and hotter. With a BA in History, she figured there were enough fry cooks in the world and decided to try her hand at writing.

Danica is the lucky pet of a compulsively needy dog and two cats. The pitter-patter of little feet has been known to make her break out into a cold sweat.

Writing is how she gives the voices in her head a way out. When she isn’t writing, working or contemplating the complexities of the universe, she spends time gathering inspiration from her insane family, reads far more than any sane person would want to, and watches hot burly men chase an oblong ball all over a field.

My Thoughts:

Touched By Lightning was a touching, action packed, adrenaline filled, super sexy paranormal read meant only for adult eyes.

I must mention that there are some unpleasant happenings in this book They are not overly detailed though. :-)

Once upon a time, there was an orphan being raised by nuns. Gyda always felt like she didn't belong but had nowhere else to go. She was tormented by the other children at school, especially one in particular. One day while hiding from the kids, an evil man with the power to render her helpless, captured her.

She suffers for many years and then is rescued by some members of the Order of Themis. Unfortunately by the time that happens, she is not the same sane girl.

Brit feels an instant attraction the first time he sees her even though she is in a precarious predicament.

Those two are combustible together. ;-) Brit is so sweet, strong, stable, honorable... I could go on and on. I love his character!

This was a page turner that had my rapt attention from start to finish. I hardly put it down.

This book was awesome! It had mystery, suspense, danger, action, steamy scenes, romance, scarred and complex characters, a slew of new types of supernatural beings, and an ending that will leave you begging for more!

No it is not a cliff hanger it is just a really good incentive to keep thinking about this series!

If you like adult paranormal romance, you MUST read this one!

I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was fan-freaking-tastic!

    2. The next book in the series is by Lea Barrymire. She's submitted it to her editor and we're just waiting to hear back ;)

Right now, the story is tentatively titled Darkness Redeemed and it's good. It picks up where Touched by Lightning ends, with Leo and Estelle's story :) Gyda and Brit do make an appearance as does Joe, of course LOL :)

    4. Thanks for the info! I am glad that we will see the characters that I've come to care for.

I'm not sure that I share Miki's enthusiasm about a different author. I hope that she's as talented as you are. You have a good thing going and I'd hate for it to lose it's stride because of differences in writing style etc..

I will definitely try it. I am too addicted to these characters not to.

    5. She is an amazing author :) The Love's Defenders series is a multi-author effort. Right now it's just me, Lea Barrymire, Amy Ruttan and Cara Carnes. I'm not sure how many stories each of the others are planning to write, but I know I have at least 4 or 5 brewing in my head.

    6. I'll take your word for it! :D I'm not necessarily adverse to multiple authors, as long as the story flows seamlessly. I can be a bit biased though. When I like an author's writing style, I always prefer them to others that I haven't tried yet.

I am so glad to hear that you have more for us!

    7. i must say that i was more surprised than enthousiast about the several authors writing one series^^ it can be great if each one really see teh same universe and exchange with others ( especially since past characters made an appearance they needto stay teh same) but it can be also more difficult thus why i was glad to know ^^

if you trust yopur cowriter we must leave thema chance and ^^ since you have more in thought that's a promise enough for me^^

    8. I've read a few series that are like that and I really enjoyed them. Its really neat seeing how they flow together with all the different authors.

  2. For an empath it must have been even harder, perhaps it's a little too dark or too sensitive subject for me i will have to think about it because when you love a book that must i'm really tempted to overcome my fears and try it

    1. You would be fine. While there are dark situations, they are not too detailed. It was really well written! :-) I have no hesitation in recommending it to you.

    2. I actually shocked myself with this story since I normally write much lighter books, but I think the strength Gyda shows in overcoming her past more than makes up for the darkness and torment she suffered. And that's what I wanted to do. Make sure to express how very much I believe that there's always hope. Always. :)

    3. You did an amazing job getting that across. :-)

    4. if that's your message then yes i would definitively give it a try^^ because we all need hope
