VBT ~ The Siren's Secret by Heather Ostler ~ Review

Description:

Julia already knows she is different. After all, she is a werecat, a shapeshifter. But she has other secrets—deeper secrets about her heritage that threaten to overtake her identity altogether. Spirited away to Sirenity, Julia learns that she is a siren—cursed to be alone forever. Her plans for a future with Terrence now seem futile, and what’s worse, her friend Caleb seems convinced that they are destined to be together despite her curse (and despite Terrence).

But beyond her complicated love life, Julia is still a princess, and she must keep her siren identity a secret. Soon, however, Julia fears that she might lose herself to this new heritage when she is needed most. She can’t afford to have an identity crisis when Alexis, her scheming mother, is plotting against the kingdom!

Filled with secret plots, dual identities, and hidden agendas, this adventure will leave you breathless. Fall into Julia’s world and discover what happens when secrets stay buried for far too long.

**If you haven't already read the first book in the series you need to put it at the top of your TBR list!**

Like any sixteen-year-old, Julia's used to dealing with problems. From her overprotective father to her absent mother to a teacher who definitely has it in for her. But everything changes when Julia's reactions become oddly vicious and angry---more animal than human. This action-packed adventure has it all: humor, romance, and a plot that'll keep you guessing to the very last page.

My Thoughts:

I have been looking forward to reading this book since the end of The Shapeshifter's Secret. No it didn't end in a cliffhanger it was just so good that I wanted more!

In The Siren's Secret the story continues! Julia Levesque has been spending all of her time in a spooky old house with her father Lancer. She's been so bored. She hasn't even been able to talk to Sierra (her BFF) so that they can keep everyone safe and their location secret from the Guild.

Then Terrence (her boyfriend) shows up and things start to look up. Her father even gives him permission to take her out on a date! Of course Caleb is against the idea and is proven correct when a Siren approaches Julia at the restaurant.

They fear that the Siren is in cahoots with Alexis and flee to Lockham Castle.

Julia is glad to be back, especially when her friends arrive.

She has a bad dream and wakes to find herself being taken by sirens. What they tell her makes everything complicated. She becomes despondent and depressed thinking that she is cursed and destined to be alone.

Julia spends much of the book going through a much needed journey of self discovery. In addition to the scenery we've already come to know and love, we are introduced to Sirenity, a magical new location.

I'm eager to see what will happen between Caleb and Julia. ;-)

There is so much to love about this book and series. Let me start by saying these books are clean and are appropriate for any age reader.

The characters are fun, lovable, and believable yet interesting and somewhat complex. The plot was fantastically imaginative with many curve balls thrown in that will keep you guessing!  Between the pages of this book are spectacular scenery, adventure, sweet romance, friendship, shapeshifting, classes at a magical school for werecats and nymphs, an evil group called the Guild, sirens, and plenty of secrets.

This story is awesomely fantabulous! I LOVE it! This is one series that I will definitely re-read over and over. I am left anxiously awaiting the next book once again! :D

I recommend this to everyone who likes engaging, charming, fun, and captivating stories. If you like shifters or YA paranormal books this is a MUST READ! I suggest reading the The Shapeshifter's Secret first. It sheds light on the characters and you may not fully appreciate the second book as much if you skip it.  It was an awesome book that you should read regardless!

I received a copy of this book from the author through Cedar Fort Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you so much!

*As a siren, Julia has the power to hypnotize, and Caleb can enter others' dreams. If you could have one of these abilities, which would you choose?*

  1. :) Probably hypnotize because to me dreams are very personal and I wouldn't want people to invade mine. B'sides hypnotizing would be soo much more fun! Have these on my wishlist.

  2. oki i'm back after a long long rest to try to stabilise my blood pressure and i see what i missed just under my eyes!!.. arf *want to slap myself* so first i confirm you are doing more than good Brenda it's just me that am out completely it seems

i admit i have a bit difficultity to imagine a siren werecat... perhaps because most cat doesn't like water? i don't know i remember your enthousiasm after book 1 ^^ and i'm happy to see second book still score high for you. i will perhaps give it a try one day ( but there are so many good shifters books that i can't follow^^;;)

oups i was going to forget which power....hypitize... i could make peopel do things they don't want to and it's not necessarily good but it could be useful to avoid mediaction for example and help some people... entering dreams.. dreams are personnal but it could be useful to enter dream of suspect to prevent some crime etc... both have they advantages and disavantage... guess i would say hypnotize because it's seem more easy to control

    thanks!!

  4. Great review! This is a new author and series for me. I will definitely put it on my TBR list.
In answer to your question,I would select the power to hypnotize. I would use this ability to help people overcome insecurity or bad habits. Entering someone's dreams is way too personal for me.
