Blurb:

Sometimes the greatest danger comes from within…

When Master Vampire Lucien Delgatto threatens her potential mate Wick’s life, Shape Shifter Andrea “Andy” McNeilly will employ a den of witches, a bedazzled thong, and her ability to shift into multiple animals to meet his demands. She plans to keep Wick safe—even if she’s not speaking to him. Lucien’s unwelcomed control over Wick's life has thrown Andy into a whirlwind of emotions.

Though Wick vows to do whatever it takes to earn Andy’s forgiveness and win back her trust, it may be too late. This recent conflict awakens something within Andy, an animal she’s never learned to control. For hidden beneath all her forms is a beast whose anger and brutality rivals none.

And she’s pissed.

Excerpt:

Letting my falcon drift close to the surface, my eyesight sharpened. A dark figure moved in the brambles near the deer path ahead of me. About to step closer, something tugged at my senses.

Come to me, a voice echoed in my head. I froze.

An overwhelming urge to walk into the forest on my right consumed my body. I hadn’t felt anything like this since…

Since I was fourteen, and walked into the forest to meet three feras.

Sweat beaded on my brow and the bridge of my nose. I wiped it away, while fighting the compulsion to move.

Come to me, Carus.

Leaning forward, I tried to locate the animal. A branch snapped, and my attention darted to where the sound originated from. The forest hummed with the sound of summer insects. My heart beat loud and heavy in my chest.

Underbrush rustled. There!

A flash of orange.

Pop! A sharp sting, much like a rubber band on bare skin, radiated across my right butt cheek. I yipped and jumped three feet in the air.

Whirling around, I found Wick with an ear-to-ear grin and his paintball gun resting over one of his shoulders. If he had a leg propped up on a recently deceased moose, he’d look like a hunter from a photo.

“Tagged you,” his whiskey voice crooned.

My Thoughts:

Today, December 1st, is release day for Beast Coast!

I strongly recommend reading these books in order.  You can see my thoughts on Shift Happens, book one, here. I was very excited to receive Beast Coast ahead of release day and it is my privilege to share it with you today.

I was pulled in from the very beginning and I stayed entranced until the end.

Andy is the carus and has more than one fera (animal spirit guide) and can assume their shapes. In this book we find out that she can have even more feras then she already has.

Poor Andy has two potential mates and she is torn between them. Wick is a werewolf with an allegiance to Lucien, the vampire. Wick is given an order and cannot fight the compulsion and does something that puts Andy in a closer relationship with Lucien than she ever wished to be in. She can not seem to forgive him. Not that I blame her. Later, he is caught in a precarious position and their relationship is put even more at odds.

Tristan is a wereleopard. Her feline fera wants him as her mate. After what Wick did, Tristan is looking pretty darn good, buuuuuttttttt, she doesn't know him very well. If Wick could hurt her and there are things that she doesn't care for about him. There has to be things about Tristan that are less than perfect too. I have a feeling that we will find out more about that in the next book.

I am torn between the men. There are things that I like better about Wick and then other things that I like about Tristan. I don't fully trust either of them.

Andy also has a demon who is sniffing around her. He is sexy in a creepy kind of way. ;-)

She gets new neighbors and that is pretty comical. I love the pranks they play. LOL!

We also get a glimpse of the beast that resides inside of her and represents her dark side. I wouldn't want to mess with her and I'm thinking that you wouldn't either.

There is a new beast in town as well. Weird things keep happening and it takes quite awhile for her to figure out what is behind it and how to fix the problem that has been put on her shoulders by her favorite vampire.

She gets a little more information about being carus but there is still much more to learn. It makes her testy that everyone seems to know more about her than she knows about herself and no one seems to be forth coming with said information.

I love J.C.'s writing style. She easily blends humor, sass, excitement, some lust (not really acted on), betrayal, mystery, action, various supernatural beings with her own twists to them making them new and unique, agendas, great characters, ....... I really could just keep on going and going.

This series is easily one of my favorite discoveries this year.

I received an ecopy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. I think very highly of this book, the previous book, and the author as well. If I have to give you an adjective, I'd say that it was superbly fantastic and in a league of it's own. I can't wait to read what you have for us next!

If you haven't read Shift Happens yet, you are missing out. It really is a series that is wholly it's own. I would compare it to Susan Illine's Sensor series in that it has many different supes, it is unique and it is awesometastic.

Don't forget to enter the Comment Incentive Giveaway. It is a great chance to win a book you'd like to have! The link can be found at the top of the page.

I'm so glad book 2 is as good if no more than teh last that's fantastic news and it makes me even more impatient knowing it won't be easy for me to get this second book (not impossible just hard)

i can imagine why it's hard to pick between the male who knows^^ more ( and a better choice) are perhaps coming in the rest of teh series ( not one per fera i do hope^^ or it will get harder to choose)

    1. LOL! I think I'm to blame re: her choice. I'm making it VERY difficult for Andy. ;-)

I think you should just everything and start reading Shift Happens...but I'm a tad biased. :-)

    1. LOL! Rest assured, she's not going to end up with a harem of men like a certain Anita Blake series...

  4. Thank you so much for the wonderful and honest review! You made my day. Side note: My publisher forgot to reset the price of Shift Happens (book 1) before the Thanksgiving long weekend, so it's still available for 99cents! Not too sure when they'll fix that. Probably tomorrow. LOL!

    2. I only do honest reviews. There really is no point in doing them otherwise.

That being said, I can only give a good review if the book is good.

      All Hail Queen J.C.!
