Review ~ Seventh Mark by W.J. May
Like most teenagers, Rouge is trying to figure out who she is and what she wants to be. With little knowledge of her past, she has questions but has never tried to find the answers. Everything changes when she befriends a strangely intoxicating family. Siblings Grace and Michael, appear to have secrets which seem connected to Rouge. Her hunch is confirmed when a horrible incident occurs at an outdoor party. Rouge may be the only one who can find the answer.
An ancient journal, a Sioghra necklace and a special mark force life-altering decisions for a girl who grew up unprepared to fight for her life or others.
All secrets have a cost and Rouge's determination to find the truth can only lead to trouble or something even more sinister.

About this Author:
Wanita May grew up in the fruit belt of Ontario - St.Catharines. Crazy-happy childhood, she always has had a vivid imagination and loads of energy.
The youngest of six -- four older brothers, and a sister -- taught her at a young age to be competitive in all aspects of life.
At sixteen, she began competing in athletics (track and field) and before she turned seventeen, she was representing Canada in high jump. She continued to compete, breaking Canada's JR High Jump record (1.92m - 6' 3 1/2" for those metric-ly challenged). She attented University of Toronto, and Kansas State University - winning CIAU's and becoming All-American 6x - NCAA Indoors Runner Up + more.
But you're not interested in her athletic career - unless of course you're curious to know she stands 1.70m (5'7") and has jumped 20cm over her head on more than one occassion. She's represented Canada at the World Championships, World Jrs., won Francophone Games, and loved every minute of every competition. From the grueling workouts, the crazy weights she lifted on her back, the days she thought her lungs were going to spit out of her mouth for lack of oxygen, the travelling around the world and the opportunity to read - her favourite past time.
Wanita and her husband now run an online business, dealing in antiques and collectables - particularly jewelry and porcelain.
After her father passed away in 2009, from a six-year battle with cancer (which she still believes he won the fight against), she began to write again. A passion she'd loved for years, but realized life was too short to keep putting it off.
She is currently represented by Dawn Dowdle of Blue Ridge Literary Agency. Wanita is a writer of Young Adult, Fantasy Fiction and where ever else her little muses take her.

What can I say? I was blown away by how much I Loved this story. I thought for sure that I wouldn't like it as well as I liked her Chronicles of Kerrigan books. I was mistaken. Obviously there is a reason that I wait for new books from W.J. May. Her writing ability knows no bounds and she has easily snared my attention with this new series as quickly as she did with her other series. :-)
In this series, we meet Rouge Riding. What a name right? The poor girl has been in the foster system forever. She doesn't know who her parents were or why they gave her up. She doesn't know why it seems that no one wants her. She only knows that she will be eighteen soon and out on her own, completely alone in the world with no one to care about where she is or what happens to her.
Her foster parents decided to move to a new town. She is out running one day and thinks she sees a park. Instead she finds herself running through a cemetery. It is here that she meets Michael. They seem to instantly connect. It is with regret that she parts from him.
She meets Michael's sister Grace a few days later. They hit it off and become fast friends.
She find herself with friends for the first time ever. :-)
She is at a party with Grace and a monster almost kills her. Michael shows up and saves the day. She is freaked out and doesn't know what to think. I mean monsters don't exist. Do they?
Eventually she finds out the truth about Michael, Grace and their family. Their patriarch doesn't seem to like her and she doesn't understand why. He sends her away from their family. She is very sad and once again alone.
Eventually, she discovers a hidden talent which leads her to uncover a secret about the bully at school. She knows that Caleb doesn't want her near his family but she feels that it is imperative that she shares her discovery with them. She braves his wrath and goes to their house.
She is welcomed back when her ability is brought to light. She wants to help them win the war against their enemies.
There is so much action in this book it was impossible for me to put it down. There are some sweet romantic moments as well as mystery, a smidge of drama and some danger too. You will not be left wanting for anything!
I can't wait to find out what happens between Rouge and Michael. Are his intentions true and honorable or are there hidden agendas behind his motives? Is her new found family hiding things from her? Were they aware of her before they met her? Will Grace turn away from her? Will she tell Michael about her birthmark? Does he already know? If not what will his reaction be? There is so much that I can't wait to find out! I need the next book now!!!
Before you guys ask, no there is not a cliffhanger! I am just so very taken with this story that I can't wait to read more. :D
I recommend this to everyone who's looking for a great story with a huge helping of supernatural. It is age appropriate for anyone as there is only kissing, no getting down and dirty. Believe me as much as I enjoy some sizzle this book didn't need it.
I received an ecopy of this book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you Wanita! :-) I honestly loved it. I thought it was superbly fantastic. I urge everyone to read her books. You will love them too. :-)
If you discovered something about yourself that was less then pleasant, would you search for answers or would you be afraid that the answers you find could be even worse?
