Excerpt:

He held a white envelope against the glass and spoke again. “I have a letter from your father.”

She relaxed a smidge. He had the wrong person. Her father had died when she was six. But she couldn’t completely relax. He was still a stranger, and after this afternoon . . . . Whoever had tried to run her over still hadn’t been caught. And maybe she’d heard him wrong. Her car was running and the windows were shut.

She took her left hand off the steering wheel and cracked her window a quarter of an inch so she could hear him better. “I’m sorry, what did you say?”

“I have a letter from your father.”

“I think you have the wrong person.”

“Alessandra Noelle?”

Lessa hesitated, her right hand tightening on the steering wheel. “Yes.”

“You’re the correct person.” His voice was low and soothing.

But it had the opposite effect on her nerves. She shook her head. “I can’t be. My father died nearly twenty years ago.”

He hesitated this time and she focused on his face. The security light cast him in harsh shadows. He wore a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a tie. No suit jacket. Probably a concession to the heat. His dark hair was brushed back off his face and his eyes appeared as dark in the night.

His lips firmed into a frown before he spoke again. “No, he didn’t. He died two days ago.”

My Thoughts:

Mafia Secret got off to a thrilling start and held my attention the whole way till the end.

Lessa goes from a near mishap to having a man tell her that her father has died. She is taken aback because her dad died when she was a little girl. The man, who's name is Marco, insists that he was not her real father. Talk about a shocking revelation!

Marco says that her father wanted her to come and meet the rest of his family. She feels compelled to go, especially if it means getting away from the threatening letters that she's been receiving.

Her brothers and sister are completely surprised by her presence and her Father's wife is furious and wants her gone.

Marco talks her into staying at least until after the funeral. She slowly gets to know the family. Things heat up between her and Marco too. ;-)

The plot had secrets, schemes, romance, action, a mafia family, more action, some drama, and some twisty turns.

I really liked this book and I truly hope that there will be books about the other family members.

I received a copy of this book from Tasty Book Tours in exchange for my honest opinion. I honestly liked it. :-)

If you you were approached and told that your father died and he wanted you to meet his family, would you feel obligated to honor his last request?

  1. Oh this book caught my interest too the first lines made me think about a manga " Reborn" so i would be really happy to read this one ( sad it's only an ebook but the advantage is that perhaps it will become free one day )

If that happened to me would i go to meet the " family"... part of me think not ... i can be really kind, forgive a lot but once the line has been reached i can hold a grugde and i guess learneing i had been abandonned would be that kind of line and if that " father" didn't take time to raise me and contact me i don't see why i would take into account any of his request last or not.... True perhaps i would regret it later but at the moment i think i would be against it with all i have

  2. I have a feeling I would not. If I was not good enough in life why would I be good enough after his death.

  3. I guess it would depend on the situation. I feel like I'm open minded however I would not feel honor bound to fulfill the request especially if he wasn't honor bound enough to take care of his responsibilities in the first place. That being said I might do it out of curiosity :)
    Thanks,

  5. This does sound really good! And im not sure. I would probably be curious enough that I would want to but at the same time, I'd be mad that he wanted me to meet them but didnt care enough for me to know him?

  7. I don't think I would meet the family. Since there was no interest from the family in the past, I would simply continue living my life without them.

What a coincidence . . . My father own died a few months ago; and like the heroine in this novel, I had been estranged from him for many years. I met some of his family members for the very first time when I went to his wake and his funeral. It was a little uncomfortable for me, but they were kinder than the other characters in this novel sound, and meeting them made me regret not reaching out to my father while he was still alive.

Anyway, it's safe to say that my answer to your question is YES. Not just to honour his last request, but also because to meet possible half-siblings and to learn more about someone who should have been a bigger figure in my life.

Now I hope I didn't bum you out or anything! ;-) I just like answering your questions as honestly as possible.

    1. Thank you for sharing your story. I was going on my own gut feeling as to what "Lessa" would do, but her main reason for going was wanting to meet her half-siblings.
