VBT: Review and Giveaway ~ The Stone Guardian by Theresa McClinton

Description:

Like any other teenager in America, Ashley just wants a normal life. But growing up in an orphanage for the insane is anything but normal. After endless therapy and increasing medication, her nightmares have only gotten worse.

Probably because they’re not nightmares.

When Ashley’s mysteriously abducted, she finds a reality even less normal than the orphanage. And she discovers something else—she’s no ordinary orphan. Faced with enemies thought to only exist in fairy tales, Ashley discovers she possesses a powerful Maya bloodline. She’s the daughter of an ancient Maya Guardian, whose duty is to protect the Stone of Muuk’ich, an enchanted relic blessed by the gods. But first she must get it back from Sarian, a power-hungry demigod who slaughtered the last guardian—Ashley’s mother. Without the stone, all will be lost.

When she meets Arwan, a hot Belizean time bender, his delicious olive skin and dark eyes make her feel a little less alone. But his gentle whispers and reassuring touch might not be all they seem. How can she balance love and duty when it’s up to her to prevent the rising of the underworld? Especially when the guy she loves might be its crown prince…

About the Author:

A long time enthusiast of things that go bump in the night, Theresa started her writing career as a journalism intern—possibly the least creative writing field out there. After her first semester at a local newspaper, she washed her hands of press releases and features articles to delve into the whimsical world of young adult paranormal romance.

Since then, Theresa has gotten married, had three terrific kids, moved to central Ohio, and was repeatedly guilt tripped into adopting a menagerie of animals that are now members of the family. But don’t be fooled by her domesticated appearance. Her greatest love is travel. Having stepped foot on the soil of over a dozen countries, traveled to sixteen U.S. states—including an extended seven-year stay in Kodiak, Alaska—she is anything but settled down. But wherever life brings her, she will continue to weave tales of adventure and love with the hope her stories will bring joy and inspiration to her readers.

My Thoughts:

The Stone Guardian was a wonderful read that took Mayans, gave them a twist and turn and spun an awesome tale. It took off right away with Ashley, our heroine, getting an evaluation in a mental institution.

This book was jam packed with action, creepy critters, romance, mystery, and of course some hunky guys. ;-) It had a slightly historical feel to it which I usually don't like but it worked well in this story.

The story flowed smoothly and was paced well. It was neither too fast nor too slow. The chapters were nicely spaced. It was easy to get into this book and it took no extra effort to stay interested.

This was a really good start to what I'm hoping is going to be a new series. The cliffhanger needs to be resolved!

If you're looking for something different to read this should fit the bill. I would urge you to try it if you are into this type of book. It was really interesting and exciting. I really liked it and I'll be watching for the next book to come out.
I received a copy of this book from Bewitching Book Tours in exchange for my honest opinion.

The reviews are only as good as the book. So if you felt the reviews were good then pat yourself on the back for a job well done!

    2. Thank you so much. I've had such a great time getting to know the bloggers along the way, and I've made contact with so many readers! The reviews admittedly been my favorite part! I think it's because reviews are from readers, and I love hearing from readers.

  4. I think I would have to learn a lot really quickly. I would definitely need help, I don't think I could do it on my own, though I would definitely do everything I could to save the world.

    1. You're braver than me Emily. I'd probably be in denial for a very long time and try to deflect the responsibility to someone else so that I didn't let anyone down.

    2. You ARE brave, Emily! And I doubt you would deflect the responsibility, Brenda. I see you being in denial for like, 2.5 seconds before trying out all your new abilities! lolol.

Ashley is brave too. It's one of my favorite attributes about her. She is faces not only the fears of the unknown, but she also stands up for what her heart tells her, no matter the outcome. I love her ability to be so mature for her age, which is something that comes from being in very adult situations all of her life.

I'd be up to the task if I had a talented writer telling my story. ;-)

But to be honest, I don't think this is "my genre." I'd probably end up one of the supporting characters who gets killed off. LOL!

    1. Ha! I'm curious. What genre does your story fall into? :D

As much as I'd like to say Horror, so that I get to be Final Girl (LOL!) . . . my life's genre is probably realistic New Adult. =) I love fantastic, out-of-this-world scenarios in my reading, but I try to be really grounded in my own life.
