Review ~ Black Rainbow by J.J. McAvoy

Synopsis: A sweet and steamy New Adult Romance from Amazon bestselling author of the Ruthless People series, J.J. McAvoy…
After an erotic one-week fling with a musician she meets in a bar, Thea Cunning never expects to see Levi Black again. Then Monday morning comes around, and she discovers that her former lover is not only her professor, but he’s also one of the top criminal lawyers in the state of Massachusetts.
With everyone in class vying to be one of the twelve disciples—a group of twelve students that Professor Black takes under his wing—tensions run high. Thea considers dropping his class, given their passionate week together and their undeniable chemistry. After all, there are other (less infuriatingly sexy) law professors on campus.
But to accomplish her goal and get her father out of prison, Thea knows she needs to learn under the best of the best—and that’s Levi Black.
But can she learn under the best, without being under the best?

Excerpt:

She snored. It wasn’t loud, or obnoxious; it was kind of cute actually. She was wrapped up in the sheets, her legs peeking out slightly, and she held on to my arm as she slept, but I didn’t mind. It was odd that I didn’t mind. I really didn’t know much about her, but I found myself wanting to know her.
“I can feel you staring at me,’ she whispered, as she shifted beneath the sheets.
“You snore.”
“I do not!” she shot back immediately, sounding both embarrassed, and hurt at my remark.
I laughed. “You do.”
“I know,” she gave in with a laugh, as she covered her face with her hands.
I laughed along with her. Her laughter was infectious.
“It’s alright, it’s actually cute.”
She looked at me for a moment, like she was trying to read me, but with a little sigh, she gave up and rose from her position and stepped out of bed, taking the sheets with her.
“I’m going to take a shower.”
“Okay, then I’ll make us something to eat,” I said, already on my feet.
She paused turning back to me, “You cook too?”
“Yes?”
“Please tell me it’s like, only eggs or something.”
“What? No, I can cook.”
“Damn it, Levi, I like my men just under perfect, thank you!”
“Would you like me to burn one side of the toast?”
“You’d better.” She glared and I kissed her lips quickly.
“Don’t worry Thea, I’m nowhere near perfect.”
“So you say.”
She kissed me back once more before she headed into the bathroom.
“You’re amazingly weird, has anyone ever told you that?”
“It’s all part of my charm, Mr. Black.”
Snickering, I shook my head at her and headed into the kitchen, wondering whether or not she really wanted me to burn her toast.
“I’ll just make one burnt and the other one fine.”
What was happening to me?”

My Thoughts:

Black Rainbow was surprising. :-) I expected hot and steamy which it was but I was not prepared for the way the plot played out.

I liked it even more than I thought I would.

I had never heard the term black rainbow before and I was intrigued by it.

The hero, Mr. Levi Black, was a law instructor and famous lawyer in addition to playboy.

The heroine, Thea, was a smart, sexy, insecure, caring, and dependable woman who loves her family and tries her best to do good by them. Oh and she is a law student.

I won't get into the plot because I want you to be caught of guard just like I was.

I will tell you that this book was sexy, with some drama, mystery, and a surprising depth.

I am not normally one to read biracial romances. Not that I have anything against them, I just don't seem to read them. I am more than glad that this one jumped out at me.

I enjoyed it a great deal and I received the ecopy which I read in order to render my opinion, in exchange for my honesty.
