Hidden by M. Lathan ~ Spotlight and Giveaway

BLURB:

Sixteen-year-old Leah Grant has given up on being normal. She’d settle for stopping the voices in her head, intrusive visions of the future, and better odds of making it to her seventeenth birthday.

That’s the thing about pretending to be human in a world where magic used to exist – at any moment, her cover could be blown and she’ll be burned to death like the rest of the witches.

Everything changes when she loses control of her powers and flees the orphanage she grew up in. She desperately wants to be invisible but finds her face plastered on every news channel as humans panic over the possible resurgence of her kind. And now the hunters won’t give up until they find her.

Making friends for the first time in her life and falling in love with one of them drives her to discover why she is unlike any being she’s ever met – human or otherwise. The dangerous powers inside of her that would repel Nathan, her new, handsome reason for living, are priceless to some. The locked up forever kind of priceless. And to others, they are too dangerous to allow her to live.

Let’s hope she can stay hidden.

Excerpt:

A far second to oranges, the song I sang in the shower every night had a way of soothing me. More than anything, it made me tired enough to fall asleep. With Whitney gone, I didn’t have to whisper it.

The stars are out,

It’s time for bed.

Now close your eyes,

And rest your head.

May angels shield you with their wings,

As you dream your little angel dreams.

I didn’t recall composing that song, but apparently, I used to think I was good and perfect like the angels. I knew better now.

I stepped out of the shower and tugged a brush through my unruly brown tangles. I stared into the mirror over the sink as I started the song again. My skin screamed winter. I should be a warmer tan; I looked less creepy in the summer. Maybe that was why the girls had been digging into me so hard. I looked rather witchy. The unease that made them mock me was probably their souls warning them, urging them to notice I was different and dangerous.

At my worst, it feels like the fire that could easily shoot from my palm is raging inside of me. My heart picks up, more than when I’m scared. It pounds, I can’t hear. My blood dances, taunting me, begging me to hurt whoever’s hurt me. And I know that I can. I feel that I can.

But I don’t. I breathe and pray and let the magic cool.

  1. It's intriguing yes....i'm curious about why they hunted all magic users and why they are terrified of her..so i'm tempted after the excerpt.

Also brenda for those outside the US it's not free (i happens more often that we think^^ so it's not a problem i just thought to tell you)

    3. oh don't worry Brenda, i got used to it ^^ it's the same royal street is in promtion at 2,99 dollars for the US if i look at it it's more than 8dollars for me^^;; i won't start feeling down for that after all i do see some free book too and perhaps sometimes i get the lesser preice too^^
the essential is that you made me discover another book^^

    6. hey girls i didn't want you to feel bad or anything really! it's fine! i'm not an fan of ebook so when i can't have one it's not a disaster ( oki perhaps i started to thing like that so it doesn't hurt but anyway now really it's fine) when it's a print book then it's more difficult for me to accept but that's life and you are not responsible for that in any way so even if someone should feel bad it should be teh publisher not you!

You made me make so many discoveries, i tried books i wouldn't have. you are making me happy!

    2. now the tie is depending on the time of the day^^ for which one of us answer first but after that since we both comment on each post it will probably stay the same ( the only exception depends on how many we loose each day since that can vary^^)

    8. Thank you! Shes doing very good! Shes just really bored and wants to do stuff. Shes used to working full time so sitting around is killing her. So we're trying to find stuff to do.

      Delete
    9. i understand when my mother broke her shoulder i stayed home to help her sinec she couldn't lift it ( she can't lift it high anymore) and it was frustrating quickly been used to do thing your own and not being able to, having to find new way to do simple things...you could start working on your book together it's something that take time, she doesn't need her elbow and i'm sure brenda would be as happy as me to read it^^

      Delete
    10. haha it was more of a joke between us than a serious idea. We've both always been more happy as readers rather than writers. :D But thanks for the support! LOL

      Delete
    11. you should be surprised ^^ readers makes the best writers^^ and from having written a fanfic with someone ( we pklayed each a character) it can be really funny so even if it's for fun, don't hesiate to try^^

      Delete
    12. I do know an author whose fan fic I used to read for years. It was funny because alot of her books were her fan fics. She just changed the names and a little bit of the storyline.

      Delete
    13. yes a lot of fanfics are being published now, it's a new trend

      Delete
    14. I love reading fan fics. Some of them are so well written. Im glad that these authors are finally getting noticed. :)

      Delete
    15. i'm reading more fanfic about manga though

      Delete
    16. I never got into Manga well Ive never really tried it but lots of friends read it. I will have to try some of them. I read it mostly about tv shows. Well mostly just Buffy actually. :)

      Delete
    17. fanfics on manga are of all kind but it's better to have read the manga in question first or you are easily lost.

they are all kind of manga it's really vast but i'm surprised to see how expensive they are in comparaison to my my country ( i mean manga are more expensive than book often for you, here it's not teh case, books are more expensive ( and more expensive than in teh us of course)

...if you want i could try to give you some title related to topic you love in books, and i do have one website or two where you can read them online i think( some manga are really different between teh anime version and the managa paper versionj too)

      Delete
    18. Sure I'd love to try some so I'll take and recs. :)

      Delete
    19. oki i will prepare that then ^^ some really good and some with vampire and/ or shifters^^ i will also add if it's the anime you should watch or the books you should read^^

      Delete
    20. oki i will give you little by little so i will be able to see what you can find too that way
for anime i will try you to make the researh because you will have more access than me

anime: Kenichi the strongest disciple ( sometimes the title is trasnlasted as the mightiest disciple) original title: Shijō Saikyō no Deshi Ken'ichi

52episodes; funny and motivating, to watch when you are feeling a little down for exaple ( i did try some of the exercices^^)and the original soundratck is too good.
      i LOVe it

the manga exist too and the story go more far ( 52episode is about the vol 12 in the manga) but it's a little darker and focus more on the fight than on the humour in comparaison to the anime.

for the anime you can also love nurarihyon no mago; with youkai ( kind of daemon or shifters). humour and adventure and action ( exist in manga too)
several season ( prefer the first 1)

oh ^^ you would love fruits basket is you want something cute

vampires: you have vampire knight it's not bad but i wasn't that fan either

in manga you have one more erotic mindnight secretary

on more fantasy but lovely, exceptionnaly well drawn is Juni Kikko ( the twelves kingdoms) by fuyumi ono.
there is an anime ( woah) and also romans ( not manga exactly)

i also love inuyasha ( i wrote a fanfixcs about it)

there is one with wxewrewolve that i know too but really really too sad so i won't tell you if you don't ask ( i prefer happy end^^)

      Delete
    21. My brother actuall used to watch Inuyasha. I never saw it but I will have to try that one. (and a few of the others) A few of my friends read that series too so I'll have to grab a few.

      Delete
    22. Inuyasha you must be careful about which anime you watch, the first one did follow the manga then they made up a end when the series what finished to be written so it went wrong but recently they did make a new series following the manga really well

i will see about others to give you a larger choice

      Delete
    23. Im not sure when I'll get to these but I will definitely write them down for refrence. Thanks hun! :)

      Delete
    24. i need to find the website where you can read them for free ( and some you can watch them online for free too^^ ( you probably have more opportunity than me becaus ei'v etried before and it was often the english version not teh french one)

if i can put my hand on them i will send you some link

      Delete
    25. That would be great! :) Thanks!
Have you ever heard or watched Hellsing? IA friend send me some of the eps on a disc. awhile back. I honestly didnt think of them til now and havent had the chance to sit down and watch them.

      Delete
    26. it's a little too dark for my taste but it does have vampires in it yes^^
( you could love kenshin but only teh manga, the anime is too different and even sad)

      Delete
    27. Ok. I may try one and see what its like. I kind of forgot about them til we started talking about this, so I was just curious then if you knew about them.

    30. i will try remember some horrors ones too since i know now that you like that^^

      Delete
    31. LOL I have to try these ones still. Anyways I'd rather watch horror than read it. But it depends on your classification too. Like i love reading the ones with the FBI profilers catching serial killers and stuff. But feel free to send me options if you like. Dont put yourself out though for it.

      Delete
    32. watch so that means it include anime, no?^^ don't worry it's not that hard when i have 5min to go check my list for option that match your tastes

      Delete
    33. I cant say that i've ever watched anime? I ment watching like horror movies. Im not sure how much I'd like them in manga?

      Delete
    34. .. to be honest i've been more afraid with manga than film in general^^

      Delete
    35. I was thinking that I would probably find it just as silly as the films.

      Delete
    36. some perhaps but for them often horror is mostly psychological so teh sounds, drawing etc all togeter ( it does look less fake than some film^^)

      Delete
    37. I didnt even know that they made that kind of manga. Interesting..

      Delete
    38. ^^ you have all kind of manga you want really ^^

    39. I will explore next time im at the store. I just never really looked at it past stocking it.

      Delete
    40. i would recommend you to explore the link i gave you first becaus ei know that a lot of manga are not distributed in the USA or a long time after ( that's one advantage for europe for once)and it's better to see a little before jumping on a serie s( since some series are more than 60tomes)

      Delete
    41. also you have qute a little section in your stores from what i have learned here you have shop only for mangas

      Delete
    42. yes it is usually not a very big selection in the stores. I have this bookmarked so when I get some time I plan on looking through everything.

  7. Will be reading this one soon.
I do not believe in real world magic, but I do like reading about those who possess magical powers. I would think it could be terrifying, unless it's some power that only helps people.

Thanks for bringing this one to my attention.
