Interview with Linda Harley author of Destiny's Flower

I was privileged to interview Linda Harley. :-)

This is what she shared with me:

First and foremost, I have to know when book two will be available. I know, I know, that isn’t really a question but a response is needed regardless. :-)

Saldiora Book 2 is currently under development. The hope is to have it ready for release in December. Awesome! Merry Christmas to me. :-)

Is there anything else you’re working on at the moment?

At this time I’m focusing on Saldiora. Once that goes off for copy editing, I will work on the Nuelda Short Stories Series.  I have many other book ideas, but since I can only write a little bit every night, all of these stories will have to wait.

Which of your characters are your favorite to write? the easiest? the hardest? the most fun?Hmmm, this is a good question and one I haven’t been asked before. Let me think… I’d say right now writing from Lynn Davis’s perspective is my favorite and the easiest to write. The hardest to write is Brigieta, simply because I have to be in a specific mind set to get her character just right. She has to seem real, and yet be a likeable villain. The character that is the most fun to write about is George the Poodolian and all the antics he gets up to.

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audio book?
Hi, my name is Linda and I’m a book addict.  I simply can’t go into a book store and not come out without at least 1 book. So my bookshelves are overflowing. However, I travel a lot on the road and flying, and so have to rely a lot on eBooks and Audio books. If I had to pick my favorite it would be Audio books that I can listen to on my iPad. I must confess that I have yet to try an audio book.

Do you have a favorite author or genre to read?
My favorite genre is young adult fantasy.  There are many great authors in this realm, but I have to say the author that has been most inspiring to me is Tamora Pierce.

Which do you prefer: Beef, chicken, pork, or vegetarian?
I love chicken! ;-) Me too.

What is your favorite color?
Blue

If you could pick any destination, where would you go?
Up until a week ago I would have said Japan, but then I actually got to go to Japan. It was a blast, and you can read about my adventures at my site www.rosebuz.com Now, the next destination on my bucket list would be Ireland. Oooh, Ireland would be a wonderful place to visit. :-)

What is your favorite summer activity?
I’m not a very outdoorsy person, because I have too many allergies to be outside in the spring and summer. But regardless of the season, my two favorite activities are playing the piano and reading.

Are you more likely to wear a skirt or pants?
Pants, I don’t have the sexy legs to pull off skirts.
lol! You'll fit in around here. Most people asked feel the same way. :D

What type of music do you listen to?
When it comes to music, I’m an eclectic. I like to listen to anything from rap, to pop, to country, to musicals, to … you name it. Currently my favorite is the album from the movie Pitch Perfect, I’m in an acapella kind of mood these days.

What is your favorite favorite splurge?
Anime.  I love to watch English dubbed anime, and my favorite splurge is to purchase anime dvds.

How do you prefer to communicate (in person, texting, email, or phone)? Definitely in person. I’ve learned that a lot can get lost in translation when you’re communicating via text, email or phone.

Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions. :D

About Linda Harley:

Dr. Linda Harley was born in Durban, South Africa and moved to the US in 1999. In 2011 she received her PhD in Applied Physiology from the Georgia Institute of Technology. While in graduate school, the idea for Destiny's Flower blossomed as she considered the importance and diversity of different cultures. How people from all over the world could accomplish things together despite these differences intrigued her and so she embarked on this novel to explore the importance of remaining true to who you are in a world that is ever changing.

Blurb:

Doctor Lynn Davis is kidnapped by handsome Lord Kyle von Talion and taken to a far off planet, Saldiora. As she finds herself in this unfamiliar culture, she must learn to fight with a sword, ride a talking horse, and endure the politics of a royal court if she is to survive. Kyle has his hands full keeping Lynn from making cultural blunders and ensuring her safety. The Juntu's are plotting to take over Saldiora and consider Lynn to be a threat to their success. Will Lynn live long enough to fulfill her destiny and save the kingdom of Saldiora?

Here's a link to my review and the purchase links. :-)

Oh, I should also mention that this book is listed on Amazon for $2.48 right now. That is cheaper than the Kindle price. It is worth so much more than that. You should definitely take advantage of this price reduction.

    2. I know what you mean. The last time I ordered a book from TBD for you they charged me a fee. :-( I hope that you're not charged extra.

    3. Really? it's the first time that happen with TBD... i really don't understand the reason.... ( or perhaps you bought from tbd. co. uk instead of. com ... still i don't see the trouble...)... the extra i means was tex because they lowered the minimal amount under which no tax is due ( and they add teh shipping fee in their count...so we are too easily above teh limit)...i never had tax with tbd so far....

arf i'm so , so sorry

    4. No worries. I think they called it VAT or something like that. It is a very minimal amount and I have been charged it when I sent to one or two other people but they must have just added your location to the ones that they charge for because that hasn't happened to me before.

  3. Alot of her answers are what I would say. I also have never tried an audio book Brenda! I think I would get too distracted. And you definitely need to see Pitch Perfect. The album is really good too but I didnt appreciate it as much until I actually saw the movie.

    2. LOL I really wish I kept up with it! Its becoming very popular around where I live. I can pretty much ask hi how are you.

      Delete
    3. I can't remember much of it either. My kids take it and try to talk to me and I am so confused. They get mad at me and ask me if I really did take it if I'm joking.

    4. you can at least use their textbook to make a revision brenda^^ that's a good way to get back into it^^
to keep some motivatyion i bought a manga that i tried to translate but since i didn't learn all teh tnese then it was more disappointin,g than motivating^^

    5. Have you ever heard the saying " You can't teach an old dog new tricks?" I think that about covers it. I'm thinking I must not have ever learned it in the first place. I just memorized it for a time maybe.

    6. you could be surprised at what you can remember in the good condition ^^ for example i'm sure if there was a book you really wanted only available in spanish you will progress at huge speed^^ ( that was one of my motivation with english^^)

    7. I think you have more faith in me than I do. lol!

      Delete
    8. haha! I dont know if I could do it anymore either!

      Delete
    9. I think if I was around it more than I would probably pick it up alot easier. I know my friend works with alot of people who speak spanish so shes learned alot from them. Me I think im a lost cause too!

      Delete
    10. you are thinking to low of yourself dears! Yes if you were around native speakers it would help greatly that's true but you can also try to start again and watch some tele novellas to listen to them and you will learn perhaps lore slowly now that you have other things to do and are not concentring only on that but you could! it's just a motivation you need ( same as children and young, if they think they won't need it or have nothing linked to that that interested them they forget more quickly and have harder to learn)

      Delete
    11. Hm.. I will have to try it. I did have alot of fun going to a friend I used to work with and asking him how to say stuff. Not that I ever remembered any of it. :D

    19. not necessarily, we start by small bits^^
esta mas facil quando el motivation esta ahi

( oki it would be even greater then to have a native to correct us but that's the idea^^)

      Delete
    20. Um something about motivation lol!

      Delete
    21. true^^ and i'm sure you can see some other words
i said it in english before in this post

      Delete
    22. I know its something about being easier. So easier with motivation? Its been a REALLY long time since I took spanish

      Delete
    23. ^^long but you are right
sometimes you just have to trust yourself
you don't need to make a translation word by word ( it's not always possible) but understand the meaning and you did ^^ really well^^

      Delete
    24. Thanks. I'll definitely have to start working on it again.

      Delete
    25. me too so when you want to try a little but want to do it with someone don't hesitate^^ ( for example we could compare our result with the exercise online or sometjhing^^ ( just need to tell me which one to do^^)

      Delete
    26. We can definitely do that. I just need to make myself sit down and actually do it. :)

      Delete
    27. ^^ same here ^^ but it's more easy when we are together to study than alone ( brenda could join too^^)

    28. It defnitely is easier and alot more fun with other people, and the more the merrier! :)
