Off The Record by Sawyer Bennett ~ review and giveaway

Book Description:

The sparks of dislike burn hot, but the sparks of mutual attraction burn even hotter.

Ever Montgomery suffered the ultimate betrayal by the one man who she should have been able to count on for anything. It has left her hurt, jaded and incapable of forming relationships, but it also means that she can spot a liar a mile away. These traits are earning her a reputation as a reporter with a keen nose for a good story and a complete understanding of the extreme power of the written word.

Lincoln Caldwell, is the hot goalie for the New York Rangers. At twenty-four and a rising star, he works hard and he plays even harder. He’s gorgeous and carefree—the ultimate charmer. Ladies fall at his feet and the single life has never been lived the way Linc Caldwell does it.

When Ever publishes an article about Linc containing information that she received off the record, she finds herself on the receiving end of the athelete’s fury. Rather than basking in the glory of exposing Linc as a shameless user of women, she finds herself at his mercy when he demands and receives retribution. Required by her editor to trail Linc for six weeks, Ever is forced to look at the real Linc Caldwell.

And she just might find that she has misjudged him.

My Thoughts:

I liked this book. :-) It is the third book in the Off series. It can be read as a stand alone with no problem. I haven't read  Off Sides (book one) or  Off Limits (book two)  yet.

Ever is a reporter who has been hurt by men in the distant past and also more recently. She thinks that she has everything under control but she ends up taking her anger out on Linc in a scathing article that she writes about him. He shocks himself as well as her when he demands that she spend six weeks with him learning who he really is so that she can rewrite her article with a more realistic depiction of him.

I really like Linc. He was sweet and understanding. :-) The two of them were great together.

It was sweet, hot, and had a lot of emotional scenes too.

If you like your romances with a nice hero who is misunderstood and a heroine who has to work through issues before they can be together, than you'll really like this book. :-) I know I did.

I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was pretty good. I am now on a mission to read the first two books in the series.

  1. Since i'm interested in discovering sport romance this year i had to be interested in this book and what you say about it....it's not exactly what i thought when i first saw the cover and now that i know you don't need to read the first books prior to to reading this one i'm even more tempted to try it....i'm curious as why as a reporter she didn't check her info before writing the papers it's strange and so loaded with mystery that i would be happy to read it just to understand her better and a hero who is understanding has all my tenderness

    thank you for the discovery

    1. I think you'd like this story.

The article that she wrote was fueled by emotion and something that happened when she was at his house interviewing him. She took what she seen and how she felt about it and made him sound really horrible.

    1. I'm not a fan of sports either. Honestly, there wasn't much of the book that pertained to sports. Their team was mentioned a few times but that was about it. Give it a try!

  4. +JMJ+

Ever makes a funny name when you're at a cafe! A former student of mine said she would tell the baristas her name was Ever so that when they called out her order, it would sound like this: "One small Tropical Passion tea latte with soy forever!" LOL!

I've noticed that heroines in Contemporaries have quirkier names these days. Have you seen the same trend, Brenda?

    7. ^^ i should be reading one sport romance per month to try to catch up at least on that part of the TBR pile^^

      Delete
    8. Good luck with that! LOL I always try and do that and it never works for me. I always get sidetracked to my paranormal or hooked on another series.

    9. ^^ i know for example last month it skipped my mind and i only have read one this month so i'm not on schedule but at the same time i do not own that many sport romance either so i should manage .... i could clean those from my tbr pile before the end of the year^^ ( an,d i do have a challenge to motivate me^^)

    10. That does help when you dont have that many. But it still could grow! Thats always the challenge with my books. I think ok Im going to get through these then I branch out to so many more. :)
That could be a fun challenge. Set out you have to read so and so each month. :) I'll have to try that.

    11. ^^ i have a challenge to read books from my pile published in 2012 and earlier that are waiting, one for sport romance ( but yes it can grow^;;) one for paranormal^^ but i couldn't decide weeks early what i will read later... ex i know i want one sport romance but i spend time checking will one i will pick just before reading because the book i pick depends on my mood

      Delete
    12. I try and do that but like you my mood changes to quickly. I tried the acutal pile thing once where I would read the one on top next. It worked for like 2 books then I wanted to read something else. Im very impulsive and get bored with what im reading so I'll have to stop and read something else for a bit then go back. Thats why I usually am reading more than one thing at a time.

    13. that's something i can't do... i need to finish the book i've started, write the review ( if i'm doing one) then start the next books... i need the possibility to immerse myself in teh story and it's not something possible with several reading ongoing

      Delete
    14. I've always been very good at reading multiple stories at once and keeping them straight. Usually its like one contempary romance and then a paranormal so its not that difficult. My mom and aunt think Im crazy to do it. If im doing it for an author then I try to stick to just that one so I can remember everything fresh and be able to review. I started keeping a notebook recently so as Im reading if I think of something to write I jot it down so that I remember it for when I write the review.

    15. some manage to read 3 or 4 at the same time so i'm not surprised but it's just somethiong i can't do ...i've tried by reading oen in french and one in english once but no i need to finish what i've started first

    16. I guess I found my hidden talent? LOL I couldnt imagine trying to do it in multiple languages so I cant blame you there.

      Delete
    17. for me it was more easy i thought i couldn't mix them if they were in different language... except that in the end i didn't know what langage i was reading

    18. Well thats cool. Its gotten to where you dont even have to think about it to translate. Thats awesome! :)

    19. yes reading in english is really easy for me but still it demand more energy from me ( hypoglycemy arrive sooner with english reading than french one)

      Delete
    20. I imagine it'd be the same for me trying in other languages. Im aiming to just be able to do passing Spanish for now. Then I'll work on others.

    21. we will try to help you to reach that goal then^^
