BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE, Royal Pride, Book 2 by Nancy Corrigan, guest post, & review,

I am pleased to share a guest post from Nancy Corrigan with you! :D  It is about Devin. He is the leading male character in Beautiful Mistake.

Ten things to know about Devin

One… Devin is a possessive feline shifter who refuses to lose anything that belongs to him.

Two… He has six brothers, but only one sister, his twin Mira.

Three… He suffers with mental illness after he takes his sister’s punishment for killing her mate. His issues range from blackouts where he loses touch with reality to feelings of inadequacy because of his splintered mind.

Four… He was disowned along with his sister from his family and became a part of the Alexander Pride at thirty winters.

Five… He was born in Ireland and traveled to America with his pride in the early 1800s. They moved throughout their territory which spans the Northeastern states, but never lived in Pennsylvania until his friend, Rafe, met his mate there.

Six… He loves practical jokes, but only his pride members and his best friend, a royal canine shifter named Xander, are allowed to tease him.

Seven… He’s extremely loyal and protective of his family and shifter children of all species. He helps Shifter Affairs, the division of the human government dedicated to protecting them, recover kidnapped and abused shifter kids.

Eight… Although extremely wealthy, he has no use for material objects. He lives in a rusty, thirty year old trailer with his twin.

Nine… His favorite food is chocolate.

And ten… He doesn’t believe he’ll ever find a mate who can heal his broken mind, but if he does, he’ll worship her with everything he is. In his mind, the world would revolve around his one true mate. Oh, and he would never, ever let her go.

About the Author:

I've always been an avid reader and encourage everyone to escape the hectic daily grind with a few minutes a day in your favorite book.

I'm lucky enough to share my cat's home with my three wonderful children, husband, dog and snake. When not writing, I work as a chemist in a pharmaceutical lab.

My passions beyond reading and family include music, classic cars, tattoos and animals (all of which have found their way into my writing in one form or another).

So that's a little bit about me...

BEAUTIFUL MISTAKE

Royal Pride, Book 2 (Devin and Lena)

Lena will do anything to protect the shifter child her family takes in, even turn herself into bait. Although she knows better than to fall for a shifter, Devin, the man who captures her, is unlike any she’s ever tangled with. Their desire is unquenchable and the draw to him is undeniable, but their relationship is riddled with mistakes and loving him has the potential to destroy her.

After shouldering his twin’s torture, Devin hovers on the verge of insanity. His life revolves around his family and recovering kidnapped shifter children. He never thought he’d have a mate or kids of his own until a rescue mission turns deadly. The beautiful female caught in the crosshairs stirs his mating instincts and tames his wild nature. Only her confusion over their intense attraction stops him from finishing their bond, but Devin’s persistent. He’ll convince his stubborn female that he’s the man she’s been waiting for—one passionate encounter at a time.

Excerpt:

Several minutes passed before the doorknob turned and the scent of evergreen and moss swept into the room. The soft click of the bedroom door sounded overly loud in her ears. She froze, suddenly very aware of her racing pulse. Nerves or anticipation? She sighed. With the way her body reacted to him, probably both.

The bed dipped as he crawled toward her. His slow approach made her heart knock hard against her ribcage. She hated how much she yearned for him.

He skimmed his fingers across her shoulder, down her arm to linger at her wrist. “Morning, baby. How are you feeling?”

His rumbly voice made her stomach flutter. She clenched her hands until her nails dug into her palms. The bite of pain distracted her from thinking about the man she should fear but couldn’t help desiring.

“Better.” She swallowed hard. “I…umm, want to…” Strong hands lifted hers and the slight contact zapped her thoughts. The unexplainable lust returned and mixed with the longing. She couldn’t get her mind to work. “Talk. I want to talk.”

“Me too. We have a lot to talk about.”

Instead of asking any of the questions she knew he had, he gently pulled back her fingers, kissing each one before pressing his mouth to her palm. His touch branded her and filled her with warmth. Her breathing quickened. An answering groan spilled from his throat.

“My sisters…I called them.”

“Are they safe?”

His question and the emotion laced into it eased some of her tension. She nodded. “They’re safe.”

A long moment passed while Devin brushed his cheek back and forth over her inner wrist. “You’re not going to tell me where they are yet, are you?”

She shook her head.

“Look at me, Lena.”

Unable to resist him, she opened her eyes and his breathtaking feline ones stared back at her. Strands of patchwork hair framed the face that had occupied her dreams all night. Harshly cut cheekbones, up-tilted eyes and the wider, flatter nose made it unique, a mixture of beauty and power. Devin was the type of man you never forgot. One glimpse and you were hooked.

He knelt next to her on the wrinkled sheets, looking deliciously hot with his disheveled hair, bare chest and loose sweats. She let her gaze travel over him from the bulge in his pants up to the lips she wanted on hers. One corner of his mouth lifted. Her heart skipped a beat. Dear god, if she wasn’t careful, he could own her.

“You can trust me.”

She wanted to. “I need to make sure.”

He stretched out on the bed next to her and pulled her into his arms. He didn’t say anything. He simply held her. The tension in her limbs drained and she relaxed in his embrace exactly as she’d done in the hotel. She didn’t know how long they snuggled but he finally shifted closer and placed his palm over her heart.

“The answer is here, Lena. Do you feel it?”

My Thoughts:

This series is bound to be grrrrrreat! I haven't read the first book, :-(  yet. That didn't impede my ability to read and understand Beautiful Mistake though.

This book has an abundant amount of terrific characters, surprises, action, romance, serious amounts of steam, and scenes that will tug and tug at your emotions.

Devin (love him!) is a shifter that has three cats in his soul. He has a lion, tiger and jaguar. He is somewhat unstable because of something that happened long ago. He suffered to save his sister and is still suffering.

While looking for a missing cub, he comes across Lena and is taken by her smell almost immediately.

Starting out under less than stellar circumstances, jumping to the wrong conclusions, misunderstandings, miscommunications, lack of trust, these are all obstacles that hinder Devin and Lena.

The chemistry between these two was scorching. ;-)

I am eager to read not only the first book, but the third book in the series too. I sure hope it doesn't take too long to be released!

I recommend this to all of you who like shifters, especially the kind of books with heaping helpings of steam!

I received an ecopy of the book in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was marvelous! If I was a kitty, I'd be purring.

    1. That is my biggest pet peeve with Ellora's Cave. There are soooo many of their books that I don't have because they charge for ebooks what I like to pay for print books. I have no problem paying extra for print but I won't pay too much for ebooks. I put the books on my tbr and wish list to wait for print format, but many of them never get purchased because they are not in print. :-( I don't understand why they don't publish more of the books in print or lower prices on books that are only in one format.

I feel like those of us who like actual books better, get the shaft. We have to wait longer to get print books as they usually release the ebooks first, and then there are the authors and publishers that don't even care about whether or not they offer all formats of the book.

I refuse to give in and buy those ebooks. I will not pay more than 3.99 for a book that I can't actually hold in my hand. It is their loss. If they don't care enough to make it affordable or make it worth paying extra by offering print, then they don't want my business. Which is sad because you know how much I read, and that I like to own my books.

There are many good books that I miss because of it but I refuse to give in. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they will offer these in print. I was lucky to review this but I'd like to have it on my shelf too.

  2. Thanks so much for the wonderful review and for hosting me!
I'm hoping to hold this book in my hands someday too :-) EC considers books for print after a year but I think it depends on how popular, etc it was (not a 100% sure). Hopefully the Royal Pride series books will make the cut. If not, I'm hoping my next series with Ellora's, the Wild Hunt, does. (That comes out later this year). Keeping my fingers crossed.
    Best and thanks again!

    3. Nancy,

Thank you for taking the time to stop. :D

Yes, I'd love to have them all in print! I love your characters and writing. I would probably have already bought this book and the previous one too if they were available in print. Here's to hoping!

Please let me know if I can help with cover reveals or anything. Even if I don't purchase them until they are in print, there are many others who actually prefer ebooks and I like to help spread the word about authors and series that I really like.

  5. The Royal Pride series sounds fascinating. I have put these books on my wishlist, but I strongly agree that the price is way too high for an ebook.
