Giveaway and Review ~ Anything But Sweet by Candis Terry

Blurb:

A man who doesn’t like change . . .

The Wilder family is something of a Sweet, TX institution: between their yearly BBQ blow-outs and their Hardware and Feed store, they’re an institution—an institution that ex-marine Reno Wilder has tried to preserve, in honor of his lost loved ones. But it seems like he’s the only one who’s got any respect left for traditions when a new TV makeover show rolls in to renovate Sweet to bring in more tourists. Everyone is pleased except Reno—and this cowboy is determined to keep everything just the way he likes it.

A woman who wants to change everything . . .
Inquisitive. Stubborn. Smart. Drop dead gorgeous. That would be makeover show host and designer, Charlotte Brooks—the woman Reno has declared war against. And yet, he can’t seem to keep away from her, or to get her off his mind. Charlotte isn’t afraid to back down from a challenge—of any kind—and she’s promised to prove to Reno that change can be sexy, hot, and very, very sweet, if Reno and Charli learn to let go of their pasts and grab hold of a future full of promise.

My Thoughts:

What can I say? The title lies. lol! This story is definitely sweet. :-)

I Love the setting. The town of Sweet has me seriously crushing on it. When you read this you'll see what I mean.

The characters are awesome as well I love both the hero, Reno and the heroine, Charlotte.

He is a cowboy who is a handsome, moody, teddy bear type that has trouble letting go of the past. She is hard working, charasmatic, and proud. The two of them fit together pretty well when they get out of their own way. lol!

The town of Sweet is getting a makeover for a tv show and Reno is hell bent on stopping it. He thinks that things are perfect the way they've always been.

Charlotte is the host of the show. She wants to help the town grow. It would be easier if Reno would cooperate but she'll do it with or without him. She is proud and isn't about to let him get in the way.
You should try this book if you like romance. If you are like me and enjoy reading about great characters and small towns you don't want to miss this!

I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for my opinion. I thought it was wonderful! I will be keeping my eye open for more books from this author. :-)

If your town was going to get a makeover, would you be happy about it or opposed?

  1. This seems a really sweet story^^ but i can understand why he doesn't want his town to change ... all changes aren't good...

if my city was going to get a make over... in fact they are trying to and yes i'm all against it... why? oki i admit i don't like change and it take me time to adjust but here the rouble is that each time they do something they repeat mistakes and errors from the past make teh situation worse each time!!. My city changed a lot since i was born and i'm afraid to take a walk now. before the center of the town was full of shops and they were activities etc... then they did a mall at the end of the city and slowly teh customers left, now a lot of shop have closed, they are so many building to be sold in teh city it's depressing and the activities are centered only in one street ( and still-_-)
now the new genius idea.... yes you guess another mall but on the other opposite end of teh city: reason: it will make more people coming in teh center of the city ( see where it goe wrong... end city but activity in teh center... like we are so stupid) and next to it new habitation etc oki but if we were so in neeed for habitation why so many building are left to be sold ....

i'm really disappointed by this project but i can't do nothing about it

This book sounds like it has a really interesting premise! I confess that I'm on Reno's side, but I can see Charlotte's good intentions, too.

For me, it all depends on who is doing the makeover. I think that it should be a local initiative, not something imposed from the outside. And I confess to being really skeptical about makeover shows ever since I read an article about some people who were on Extreme Makeover: Home Edition but ended up being unable to sustain their incredible new houses. I think that sort of outcome is inevitable when outsiders come in without a real sense of how the local community works.

I forgot to ask Candis a question! Here it is:

Do you identify more with Reno, who wants to keep his town as it is, or with Charlotte, who is happy to shake things up?

  6. Good morning!

Thank you for the wonderful review of Anything But Sweet. I really appreciate it.

As far as who I identify more with? That would be Charli. I like to shake things up a little. Respectfully, of course. :)

Thanks for answering my question, Candis!

Believe it or not, I was guessing you would say that you identify more with Reno! (I don't know why I thought that . . .)

    3. LOL! For a couple of years when my hubby went hunting I would do a room makeover to surprise him when he came home. Eventually he told me to stop because he was afraid to leave. So I guess he's like Reno. :)

  7. Ask any of my family and they would tell you I do not like change. But that's mostly change that directly affects ME. IF a change to my town (& we move every 4 yrs or so, so I do not really have a town) was in the wind, as long as it would preserve the integrity of the town, the history, the character, and would only make it better, I could support it. However, that 'make it better' is always subjective, isn't it?

  8. If my town was going to have a makeover, it would be CRAZY expensive. The area in VA I live in is actually a collection of cities known locally as the "7 cities" or just simply as Hampton Roads. I have lived in just about every city in this area, but it is hard to define each one as a separate town because the city boundaries are so oddly placed. So it probably wouldn't be possible, but if I could choose one area to get a makeover, it would be Portsmouth because it has some beautiful historic areas, but most of that city is SO rundown and it needs a facelift badly! Thanks so much for the giveaway! This book looks super cute :)

  9. This does sound really sweet! and Im not sure. It's changed soo much since I was little and its turning more and more into a city everday. So I'd probably say no now because its already so different and theres so much going on.

  10. Change is inevitable, but getting a makeover just for a TV show is a bad idea. Change should be the result of a local citizen advisory committee.
This book sounds like a fun read. Thanks for sharing.

  14. Ohhh, makeovers are nice but I think it would depend on how much of a makeover the town was getting. Modernizing is one thing but changing it too much wouldn't be that great. I'm not big on wholesale changes, if I'm used to something, I like things to stay the same.

  17. Nice review :) This sounds like a light read perfect for the beach.
If my town was to get a makeover then I guess I'd accept it. My own town has been going through a lot of changes in the past 10 years and most of the people have been in favor of it. I don't know if they've really been for the best though.

  19. I like my town the way it is I think. A bit of a makeover wouldn't hurt but it might take away from the quaintness of it.
My question for Candis is: Do you munch on anything when you read? If so what is your favorite munchie?
Thank you both! Have a great day!
