ARC Review ~ Soar by Alyssa Rose Ivy

From Goodreads:

In the city that never sleeps the Chronicles continue…

Serving coffee is temporary, just like Casey's year off from school. She’s going to come up with a plan to stay in New York City and go back to college, and that plan does not involve dating a paranormal creature—let alone two.

Running the supernatural society of New York is not as fun as it sounds, especially when you still have to answer to your ex-girlfriend’s fiancé. Toby doesn’t mean to bring Casey into the chaos of his life, but he can't resist the girl who makes him smile when he thought no one else ever could.

Jared's in New York checking out a security risk for his best friend, the king. He plans to return to New Orleans quickly, but not if it means losing his chance with the brunette who pretends she wants nothing to do with him.

In over her head with a bunch of winged creatures who most definitely are not angels, Casey has to figure out who to trust with her life and maybe her hearty.

My Thoughts:

Soar is the first book in The Empire Chronicles. This is a spin off of the Crescent Chronicles series, which you know I Loved. The same great characters are mentioned in this book, Allie, Levi, Owen, etc.... The story focuses  on Toby and Jared, and a new leading lady by the name of Casey.

These books are about a type of bird shifter called pterons. They do not transform into birds but they do have huge wings that can come out of their back. Why, yes, of course they can fly!!! Oh and they lead the council and govern the many other groups of supes.

Levi has just taken over for his father as the King. Not everyone is happy about that. Some shifters begin to randomly attack humans and get negative attention. The pterons can't ignore this blatant disregard of the rules and they decide to handle it. Things are never that easy in one of Alyssa's books though!

I had a small problem with the way Toby seems to be getting the shaft. He was not so nice in the Crescent series but he lost his girl to another man. I say he paid for his sins. I was ready for him and Casey to get together as he was so very sweet to her.

I like Jared. I really do, but not at the expense of Toby's feelings again! That is too harsh Alyssa!

And then there is the ending! OMG!!!! What next????

I sure hope that we won't have to wait to long for the next book!

In Soar, I found the same great attributes that I liked in the other pteron books. There was some romance, danger, chaos, a love triangle (not my favorite part), action, great characters with lots of snark and sass, twists, turns, and surprises too, all wrapped up in a pretty cover just waiting for you to read.

I recommend reading Soar. You do not need to read the Crescent Chronicles series in order to read it but the books were great so I would read them if you haven't already!

I received an ecopy from Alyssa (Thank you!) in exchange for my honest opinion. I honestly liked it and I am eager to see what becomes of Casey and how the surprise while impact everyone, as well as who is calling the shots with the rogue shifter groups. I only hope that Toby will not be hurt too badly and if he is, please rip the band aid off quickly and be done with it. My heart hurts for him. That is the reason that I only liked not loved this book. I hope that the triangle will be completely resolved in the next book and then I will be able to embrace it completely!
