Review & Giveaway ~ One Hot Second by Stacy Gail

Synopsis:

Parker Radclyffe is up against a wall. Thorne Mansion, the mysterious Italianate castle she's come to Texas to restore, isn't the problem. No matter how intriguing the relic is, it's merely an ember compared to the blazing magnetism of its owner, Chandler Thorne.

When his family mansion burned down, Chandler had to watch over a hundred years of proud history go up in smoke. After more than a year, he finally has everything in place to rebuild, including a renowned conservation architect to oversee the

restoration. But when he lays eyes on Parker he realizes he's gotten more than he paid for. Maybe more than he can handle.

Parker is a military brat who never sits still long enough to get burned. Chandler is her opposite, a man with deep roots and deeper family secrets. It won't be easy to find the common ground it takes to build a home together, but Chandler is a Thorne in every sense. He plans to stick with Parker until she sees that love is more than worth the risk.

 Adult Excerpt:

A sudden text chime dragged his attention from the computer screen.

“It’s midnight. Do you know where your architect is?”

His chuckle rumbled through the silence of the office, and his mood lightened as if by magic. Parker. How she managed to make the sun shine in the middle of the night during a thunderstorm was a mystery to him, but he was damn glad she did.

His mouth remained curved as he opened up the text window. “Let me guess. Right now you’re sprawled on a zebra-striped bed while your neighbors serenade you with ‘oh yes. Oh, YES. OH, YESSSS!’ Or something like that.” After all, that was where they had been twenty-four hours earlier. On the bed. On the floor. In the shower. On some weird sleigh-shaped lounging couch-thing that vibrated whenever they sat on it. Every surface in the Nooner’s Honeymoon Suite had become a stage for carnal adventure. Just thinking about it had his pulse thrumming in his cock, and the last of his irritation melted away. Considering their almost sleepless night, it was a freaking miracle he’d done any work at all today. Sleep deprivation, combined with images of Parker every time he closed his eyes, was enough to make him ache to go to her and forget about the paper, the time capsule and every other responsibility he had.

And when she’d gotten so furious on his behalf, all he’d wanted to do was hold on to her. Like a drowning man holding on to a life preserver. Like a kid holding on to a teddy bear. Like a man holding on to a long-lost love.

Just thinking about her made his arms hurt with their emptiness.

It took a minute for her next text to pop up. “All I heard back at the Nooner was the rain. Neighbors tonight were either nonexistent or firm believers in the silent orgasm.”

His snort of laughter sounded loud in his ears. “If they’re silent-orgasmers, they’re not doing it right. As you very well know.”

“Orgasmer is not a word, Mr. Editor, and is that a complaint that I’m too loud?”

“A compliment. Never a complaint.” The last thing he’d tell her, at least in a text message surrounded by a cartoony talk-bubble was that the sound of her losing herself to the pleasure he gave her was the most addictive rush he’d ever known. God help him, just thinking about it got him hard in one hot second. He couldn’t get enough of it.

“Glad to hear it. Because you still haven’t correctly guessed where I am.”

He was still typing a response when a picture of the rain-washed glass front doors of the Herald appeared on his screen.

“Let me in. I’m getting wet.”

Meet the Author:

A competitive figure skater from the age of eight, Stacy Gail began writing stories in between events to pass the time. By the age of fourteen, she told her parents she was either going to be a figure skating coach who was also a published romance writer, or a romance writer who was also a skating pro. Now with a day job of playing on the ice with her students, and writing everything from steampunk to cyberpunk, contemporary to paranormal at night, both dreams have come true.

My Thoughts:

One Hot Second will give you a new appreciation for buildings and the people who make them happen. The heroine is an architect named Parker.

The leading man is  Chandler Thorne. He hired Parker to recreate his ancestral mansion that was burned down.

From the beginning, these two have an instant attraction. There are some surprises found during the demolition phase. There are also some problems that arise at the job site and around the community.

There is some hot and sweaty action and some of the characters were really charming. I kind of got attached to Earl. :-)

There was some humor (especially at the Nooner!), steamy action, sweet romance, interesting historical facts, small town gossip, and characters that were quirky and unique in this book.

I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. This book was read pretty quickly and I enjoyed every second, hot or not. ;-)
