Review ~ Playing the Maestro by Aubrie Dionne

Melody Mires has sworn off dating musicians, but when the sexy European conductor Wolf Braun takes over her struggling symphony, her hesitation almost flies out the window with the notes of her flute—until he opens his mouth. Wolf is arrogant, haughty, and seems to have a personal vendetta against Melody. Oh, and he’s her boss. If she wants to keep her job as principal flutist, she’ll have to impress Wolf while simultaneously keeping her undeniable attraction to herself.

Wolf came to America to get as far away from his past as possible, and to recover some of the swagger he had as one of the world’s best maestros. He never imagined being forced to reassess the entire orchestra’s talent—and potentially fire anyone who doesn’t make his cut. Dating the attractive flutist is out of the question, but as their feelings reach a fever pitch, can they risk both their careers for a chance at love?

A bit about Aubrie Dionne:

When she's not writing, Aubrie teaches flute and plays in orchestras. She's a big Star Trek TNG fan, as well as Star Wars and Serenity.

My Thoughts:

I liked Playing the Maestro. I'm not a musician by any means but this was easy to understand regardless. It was actually a rather quick read. I'd suggest this book for adults only. ;-)

The blurb pretty much gives you a peak at what this book is about but there is so much more going on than just that. There is a man trying to sabotage their symphony and Melody's place in it as well.

There is also a situation with Melody's niece which requires her to be hospitalized. Despite the sadness of the situation, it brought on two of my favorite scenes in the book.

I laughed and cried and really enjoyed this one!

I suggest reading it if you like romance or classical music, both, or even if you just want to read something different. This was pretty darn good.

I received a copy of this book from Entangled Publishing in exchange for my honest opinion. I'd love to read more about these characters and you probably will too!

Do you enjoy the symphony?

  2. I love going to the symphony! There is nothing as exciting as a live concert. With the great variety of classical music, there is something for everyone to enjoy.

A friend took me to the symphony once, but I didn't enjoy it as much as I hoped I would. =( After the intermission, we found seats with a better view and I had a good look at the musicians in the percussion section. And boy, were they entertaining! I had a lot more fun watching them play their parts. =)

  5. My household is a very musical household. We love music. I think I might be a bit tone death, but my husband and kids are very musically inclined. So, yeah, I love most types of music and used to play classical when the kids were little to help them sleep. The thing I love about classical music, is that without words or pictures, it can move you. It can make you feel so much emotion that you can't help but react. It's very powerful.
