Release Event and Giveaway ~ Shifting Dreams by Elizabeth Hunter

Book Description:

Somedays Jena Crowe just can’t get a break. Work at the diner never ends, her two boys are bundles of energy, and she’s pretty sure her oldest is about to shift into something furry or feathery. Added to that, changes seem to be coming to the tiny town of Cambio Springs, big changes that not everyone in the isolated town of shapeshifters is thrilled about.

Caleb Gilbert was looking for change, and the quiet desert town seemed just the ticket for a more peaceful life. He never counted on violence finding him, nor could he have predicted just how crazy his new life would become.

When murder rocks their small community, Caleb and Jena will have to work together. And when the new Chief of Police isn’t put off by any of her usual defenses, Jena may be faced with the most frightening change of all: lowering the defenses around her carefully guarded heart.

Shifting Dreams is the first novel in Cambio Springs, the new paranormal romance series from Elizabeth Hunter, author of the best-selling Elemental Mysteries.

Here's an excerpt:

“Aren’t you the talkative one?”

He gave her a sly grin. “Sometimes.”

Jena shook her head. “I bet you barely have to talk to the girls with that smile, cowboy.”

“Why ‘cowboy?’”

“Boots and attitude. You can always tell a man by his boots. You’re not an office kind of guy, I can tell. I’d even bet you’ve got a hat hanging around somewhere.”

He nodded. “You could say that.”

“So, just passing through?”

“You could say that, too.” At least for tonight. “And I left my hat in the car. My mom would skin me alive if I wore it inside.” She’d skin him alive for a lot of things, lately.

“Good. I’ve had a tempestuous relationship with hats today.”

“Now that’s a statement that begs a story.”

She shrugged and leaned a little closer. “Maybe, but it’s not one I feel like telling tonight.”

Caleb pulled her a little closer. “What do you feel like doing tonight?” No way in the world could he be that lucky.

A slow smile spread over Jena’s face. “Dancing.”

“We’re already doing that.”

“And maybe kissing a cute cowboy who’s passing through.”

Well, well. He wasn’t going to complain about that. Caleb looked around the bar. “Hold on, let me see if I can find one for you.”

  1. I does seem appealling^^. I'm discovering more and more book where the heroine is a mother^^ ( curious about where teh father is in this one... does he left? he died? really i'm curious)
it's almso intriguing that she doesn't know in what her child could shift that it means it's not genetic? or that she wasn't the same kind of shifter as his father and then he could be one of the other or that just pure luck in a kind of lottery ( would seem so strange for a chacal to get a child that shift in a water animal^^::)

Calleb is a shifter too? if he is 100% human, wouldn't be strange he could be assigned to a shiter town ( they are normally protective of their secret)

really a lot of questions in a good sense

and there is mystery...; paranormal+ suspense+ romance all what i love^^

I first noticed the increasing number single mother heroines in Romance several years ago. It seems to reflect the modern reality that a lot of first marriages don't work out. There is also something appealing about a hero who is willing to deal with "baggage" as complex as children.

It's not a trend I'm crazy about, though. I think I'd like it more if there were also a lot more single father heroes, to give us some balance!

    2. Miki,

I'm really curious about this one too!

      Enbrethiliel,

It is appealing that a man would not just accept but also embrace someone else's responsibility. ;-)

I see your point about single fathers too. Maybe we'll see more of them in the future?

In a way, children are the new "forest of thorns" around a romantic heroine. Only the heroes who are both brave enough to dare the forest and good enough to make it through need apply! ;-)

    4. i did read a lot of book with single father^^
..; perhaps it reflect the reality yes but i would prefer a reality where people thought more about jumping in a relationship to destroy it after
( my parents didn't have even a crush before they met and they were older but they had more than 35 years of happiness together ( more if this illness didn't appear)... that's the kind of model and life i want

    5. Very well put Enbrethiliel. :-)

I agree Miki. My parents were very happy with each other too. They were married a couple months shy of 50 years when cancer claimed my Dad. I am lucky to have had them for role models and I have a blessed marriage as well! We are going on 19 years! :-)

I really like the light touch in the prose of that flirting scene! Yes, Brenda, it's quite appealing. ;-) The only reason I'm not entering this contest is that I won two giveaways on your blog last month and I want to give other people a chance! LOL!

    1. Yes you've won two, but how many times have you entered and not won? I think your two wins were well overdue! :-)

Well, when you put it that way . . .

      *enters the contest* ;-)

    3. ^^ i agree with brenda you should enter as lon,g as you can ^^ it took me more than a year before winning the first time^^

    4. I used to enter giveaways all of the time and it seemed like I didn't win and didn't win, and next thing I know, I won a whole bunch at the same time. That doesn't mean that I deserved them any less! :-)

Also, I offer many giveaways, some are mine and others are sponsered by the authors. One of the perks of following a less known blog like mine, is that not as many people enter the giveaways as some of the better known blogs. Therefore, your chances of winning are better! If everyone that wins 1 giveaway had your outlook, no one would enter the giveaways and then they would quit offering them. We don't want that to happen! So enter all of the ones that appeal to you! :-)

Miki -- That's a good point. I never know when I'll win something else again!

Brenda -- I hadn't thought of that, either! Thanks for the encouragement. =)

That's what friends are for is it not?

    7. you are a perfect one ^^;;

enbrethiliel, i understand you don't worry i did not enter some giveaway because i thought someone else would be more happy etc ( for example when we could win 2 book and i already had one of them) but after if you have regret it's not worthit , ( in that ase if i had won i could have kept the book i missed and offer the one i had in double)

As long as you are interested in the prize it's better to participate^^ (and it show that we are active too^^)

    8. Authors love to see interest in their giveaways. Who wouldn't want to know that there is interest? I know I do. I would hate to have giveaways if no one entered! It wouldn't be worth my time to organize or my money either.

If it is a prize that has two books but you have one, you can always re-give it later or refuse one prize and ask them to chose a different winner for that.

Believe me, whoever received the one book would be appreciative even if it wasn't both books.

      Have we convinced you?

    9. Definitely participate in the contests! When I won copies of books I already owned, it allowed me to gift the 2nd copy to a friend to get the interested in the series as well. It's a great way to support an author you like. I am sort of obsessive about contests, spend way too much time entering them. The high you get from winning, and they're FREE! LOL

Brenda, I make sure to share your posts on my Facebook page each time. I would love for traffic to increase for you, but I do like the fact that there is only a few of us here. You start to get to know the other people and it kind of creates a little "knowledge exchange" community.

    10. Josette,

Thank you for sharing! I'm not really trying to increase my traffic. I am truly happy with those of you who regularly stop and chat. I like getting to know each of you and it is easier to do when there are less people. lol!

I mostly want to spread the word to help the authors. If I gain a follower here or there great but I just want to get more exposure for whatever book or author I feature that day. :-)

I think the main reason I was so hesitant is that I can only afford to do one or two giveaways a year. So if someone wins one of them, I want to give someone else a chance to win next time. But I did see how that rule culled the number of participants when I did the giveaway last year. I'll probably suspend it for this year.

So you've all convinced me of much more than you think! ;-)

    12. I'm glad! :-)

I understand your reasoning and it is honorable that you would look out for others and not be greedy. :-)

Just because you enter doesn't mean you'll win.

On the other hand, they have all won and that doesn't stop them from entering again even though you hadn't won. Believe me, if I see someone winning over and over and over, I would have to ban them for awhile to be fair. So far the winners have been fairly spread out.

  4. The premise does sound interesting and I am adding it to my TBR. I would like to read it for sure. I think shifter stories are my favorite paranormal stories.

As for the trend towards single moms. I guess I can understand why they do it, but it dose beg the question regarding the state of our society that even in books the relationships don't work the first time around. I like the idea of an older heroine and have enjoyed being able to read stories of older, less than perfect women. I'm not young anymore, so reading about 20-somethings all the time gets to be a bit old.

  8. This is another book that I have seen before and honestly the description sounds good but I don't think I was interested enough in it until I just read that excerpt! Seriously, I'm a huge fan of excerpts because it shares a bit of the author's writing style and a brief insight. So thanks for having the excerpt on your post Brenda! I like the cute and easy dialogue between the two characters.
And yes, now I really am interested in reading it :)
