Excerpt:

Brenna’s eyes fluttered open to see a blur of trees flying by. Her head pounded and her stomach began to roll from the pain she felt and the fast-changing scenery. A careful look at her surroundings told her she was in some older model car. She inhaled deeply to calm herself, but confusion set in as her senses were assaulted by unfamiliar smells. Her eyes widened in fright as terrifying memories began to flood her mind. Turning slowly, afraid of what she might see, she gazed at the man behind the wheel of the speeding car. She shivered when she saw he was just as repulsive as she remembered. Who was he and what did he want with her?

Sensing her stare, a pair of dark, soulless eyes turned towards her. A smile appeared on his unkempt face. “Well, well, sleeping beauty awakes.” Brenna’s stomach rolled again as she felt his eyes slide hungrily over her body. She pushed up against the door in an effort to put as much distance between the two of them as she could, but he shook his head in disapproval. “No need to be dramatic.” He turned his attention back to the road. “We both know you won’t jump out.”

This book sounds intriguing to me, but also a little creepy. I'm not sure if it would be too scary for me or not that's why I didn't review it. I'm waiting to see what other people say before I decide.

What do you think?

Have you read this?

  2. i guess i'm feeling the same as you i haven't read it but i'm not tempted at all... i don't think an happy end could be in this book and when it's too scary without hea it's really not for me ( sometimes if teh ending is good and happy i can try , make an effort but this one doesn't call for me at all)

    i need to read to dream, escape not to terrify myself^^;

  3. I read some suspense, and this sounds like a well thought out story, but not like something I would want to read. Guess I'm with Miki, I like to see a HEA. The excerpt made my insides twist and i don't like that feeling with the hope of something good.

  5. I have seen a few posts around the blog/book world about this book and the description of the book looks wonderful, however I have passed it up before due to just the cover. The cover doesn't at all give me the same vibe and the book description! I like a little bit of creepy in a suspense book so maybe this book will be great....I just need to get over the cover!

      I'm with Dione and Miki! While I'm hardly an artist, I think I could have designed a MUCH better cover than that! =/

    If a kidnapper said to me, "We both know you won't jump out," I'd do it just to show him what he doesn't know! =P

    The cover is kind of off putting, but the synopsis and excerpt don't sound creepy to me at all. There are lots of Romances that I can think of in which the heroines are abducted and held against their will, and even when the villains have sinister intentions, it's all part of the big adventure. Then again, I may have missed the point. This novel doesn't seem like a Romance and may not have the guaranteed HEA that makes everything okay. In which case, Brenda, I understand your hesitation.

    1. You've made a good point. It doesn't say that it was a romantic suspense and it is unfair of me to assume that it was.

  11. Alrighty, geez, talk about scaredy cats. It is an absolutely amazing book. I have read and re-read it. You really need to give a book a try before judging it by its cover. It has a little bit of everything, romance, paranormal, suspense. I found my hands sweating when it came to all the good suspenseful parts and loving the romantic parts. There are some really fun scenes in it and some scary ones, but it is a well-rounded book.
