VBT: Giveaway and Review ~Her Knight in Black Leather by J.M. Stewart

Cat Edwards has spent her life playing the wallflower in an effort to escape the repressive weight of her mother’s tarnished name. Dragged to a bar by her best friend in an effort to forget a broken heart, the shy bookworm is determined to be someone else for the night, but quickly gets in over her head. She discovers chivalry isn’t dead after all when a mysterious stranger comes to her rescue. He’s wearing black leather and a mischievous smile that promises to be exactly what she needs.

When his terminally ill father suffers a setback, Michael Brant returns to the town he swore ten years ago he’d never return to. He’s come back this time determined to make peace with the past, but being home brings up memories he doesn’t want to remember anymore. His first night in town, he’s captured by a damsel in distress. Cat’s beauty is made all the more alluring when he realizes she has no idea who he is. He can’t resist spending a single night in her arms. With her, he’s only a man, disconnected from his family’s name and the past that haunts him here.

As the town erupts with the news of his return, Michael’s dark past comes back to haunt him, putting Cat in danger. Someone is threatening her life and the life of her family. Desperate to keep history from repeating itself, Michael offers her his family’s name in order to keep her safe. When the lie spirals beyond their control, can they stop their hearts from becoming entangled as well?

“Follow my lead.” His voice flowed against her ear, rich and smooth and darkly sensual. The kind of voice she could well imagine whispering to her in the dark. It added to the stubble prickling her cheek and, for a moment, her mind twisted off in another direction, filling with naughty fantasies. Suddenly she was dying to see the face behind the voice.

Louder he said, “Miss me?”

Velvet soft lips brushed her earlobe as he spoke, combined with the deep, sensual quality of his voice and sent delicious shivers slipping down her spine. For a moment, Cat forgot to breathe, forgot what in the world she was supposed to be doing. Somewhere through the haze that took over her mind, his meaning finally occurred to her. Her body went limp with relief. She had the sudden urge to turn and hug the man. Chivalry hadn’t died with King Arthur after all.

“You’re late.” Playing her part, she straightened on her stool and reached back to twine her fingers with his. Soft, thick fingers that filled her overheated mind with visions of them sliding over her skin.

The clod’s hand finally released her thigh, and Cat swallowed a sigh of relief then spun to face her savior. “You were supposed to be here...”

Her train of thought derailed as she came face to face with the center of a broad chest. A thickly muscled chest barely contained by the black T-shirt covering it. Her heart skipped several beats as she followed the muscles upward, past even wider shoulders, until her gaze collided with a pair of dark brown eyes that made her breath catch.

Oh boy. She clamped her mouth shut and swallowed hard. A five o’clock shadow covered a strong, square jaw, giving him a rough and rugged edge. His thick, almost black, hair licked at the collar of his worn leather jacket, just long enough to be rebellious, and tousled by the wind. Her fingers itched to reach up and slide through his hair to see if it felt as soft as it seemed.

“Forgive me.” As he bent down to her eye level, his eyes burned into hers, a hidden meaning in the dark depths she couldn’t quite grasp. She couldn’t concentrate much past the fact his face was now a scant inch from hers. His soft, warm breath fanned her lips, and her gaze zeroed in on the mouth that had sent delicious sensations thrumming through her body barely a minute ago.

Before she could ponder what on earth he meant or come up with a proper response, he took their charade a step further.

He kissed her.

My Thoughts:

Her Knight in Black Leather was a sweet and hot quickie that had me frozen to my seat. I was unable to walk away for more than a few minutes at a time.

The plot had a bar, a leather clad bad boy turned good Samaritan, a shy librarian type woman, secrets, a town that doesn't know how to mind it's own business. threatening phone calls, a nut case, and an instant attraction that is impossible to ignore.

Both characters had things from their past that they were hiding from. They were great together. They brought out the best in each other and that enabled them to heal without them even realizing it was happening.

I really thought this book was pretty awesome. My only complaint was that it had to end. I would have liked more! :-)

I recommend picking this one up if you like your romances quickand hot with some danger thrown in the mix.

I received a copy of this book from CBLS in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was great. ;-)

What do you think of men in leather, hot or not?

A leather jacket can be sexy, but too much leather can be overkill! LOL!

Brenda, your review makes this book sound a little like Woman on the Run by Lisa Marie Rice. Have you read that one?

    1. No Enbrethiliel, I haven't read it but I will check it our ASAP. :-) Thanks!

Also, thanks for the image in my head. I am now picturing a man completely covered in leather with only his eyes peaking out.

    2. +JMJ+

Ooops! That was totally unintentional. LOL! ;-)

All I had in mind was leather pants. I'm not a big fan of skinny jeans on men and leather pants seem to exacerbate the same look. So a leather jacket and leather pants would totally be overkill for me. =P

    3. I agree. My imagination just went a little beyond that. lol!

    4. hahaha! I am loving this discussion. I promise he's not completely covered in leather. The title was my play on the phrase, "Knight in Shining Armor." Michael wears a black leather jacket. That and the bike are kind of his signature. No skinny jeans, either. Just plain ol' Levi's. ;)

    5. +JMJ+

Hi, Joanne! I think a leather jacket and Levis are a great look for a modern-day knight/hero! =)

    6. Me too! Love a leather jacket and Levi's!

  2. So many aspects that make a great read in one book. Sounds great to me!

    1. It is! You should definitely check this one out Debby.

  3. Thank you so much for such a terrific review! I adored reading your view on it and I'm so pleased you liked Michael as much as I did! Thank you for hosting and reviewing me today!

    1. You are most welcome! Thank you.

As I tell everyone, my review is only a glimpse of how good I perceive the book to be. If you liked my review, then you must have written a great story! :-)

  4. OH, so my kind of hero! Love a bad boy persona, especially when they have the heart of gold hiding in there. Definitely adding this one to my TBR. Can't wait to get my gift cards so I can go buy some books!

    1. Your post made me giggle, b/c it sounds like me. To a reader, bliss is a bookstore and money to spend. There's a saying I saw on Facebook: I cannot be trusted in a bookstore with a credit card. Your post reminded me of it.

    2. Josette,

I think you'll want to put this one at the top of your list. :D

    3. Definitely! I'm a part of a book club and we toy with the idea of a bookacholics anonymous, but none of us really want to cure our addictions ;) LOL

Thanks, Brenda, I'll definitely do that!

  5. Leather jackets hot!
    Leather pants not!

    1. Agreed! Michael wears a lether jacket and jeans. You're safe to read it. He is most definitely HOT! ;-)

  6. oh i love this one^^ and chivalry must not be reduced to a specific kind of men in a special attire... it's their souls speaking so leather or not would just be a bonus. it can be sexy on some other could be better without i gues;)
( i remember a school travel in london, a punk came to speak to one of the girl in my group and she started screaming like a banshee while he just wanted to offer her an advice on how she was carrying her bag. he was polite and charming but she just took his looks into account... so sad)

i love when you enjoy a book and while reading your review after the excerpt i find some of what i thought written.

i enter the giveaway with pleasure... hoping it could be a pdf if i win because now i've added it on my to read pile... so good!!!

    1. Ha! I'm glad we share so many thoughts.

You'd like this one for sure!

    2. I agree whole-heartedly. Some of the nicest people I've met over the years were the one who looked "scary." I've definitely learned the old adage "never judge a book by its cover" definitely tends to ring true.

Unfortunately, I've been given the book in 2 formats, for the winner to eventually choose from--epub and Mobi.

    3. Absolutely! You can never tell just by looks. My kids and I are a part of the Ohio 4H program, and are club welcomes many kids that other clubs don't have patience for... they are all ADHD and ADD, etc. A few of them, have the dyed hair, weird earrings, piercings everywhere, and the "goth" look and they are all great kids!

  7. This looks really good! I'm partial to bad boys, so men in leather jackets, absolutely!

  8. A little leather never hurt! Love a guy in jeans and a leather jacket!
I liked this excerpt and book description! Wanting to read the rest of the book now :)

  9. As long as it's not leather skinny jeans or too over the top, definitely love it!

    1. Emily, I totally agree with you. I don't like my guys looking like one of the Village People in tight leather pants and a leather vest!
