My Time Out ~ Off of the Topic Rant

Okay so some of you International followers may not understand where this is coming from and some of you from the USA may completely disagree with me but I am going crazy with this!

On February 2nd an actor and director, Philip Seymour Hoffman, was found dead in his apartment we assume it was from an accidental overdose of heroin.

I feel bad for all of those people who loved him or knew him well. I am not completely heartless, BUT people die from overdoses or getting bad batches of drugs daily and it is not on every news station repeatedly for days in a row. Why should he be different? I understand he was famous, but say it and be done already! I don't need to hear it over and over and over. I don't think his family needs to hear it repeatedly either. I mean they have to deal with this with out having it brought up again and again.

Some people say that it is a tragic loss. What I find tragic is the fact that people continue to do drugs. DRUGS kill!!!! It is like Russian Roulette, it might be this time it might be the hundredth time you take something. Why would you take that risk? It doesn't matter who you are, who you know, or how much you pay for them, drugs do not discriminate ~ they kill.

The fact is he chose to take drugs. He died. I just hope that others learn from his mistake.

As I said, I feel bad for his family but the fact is people die everyday from sickness, heart attack, stroke, etc. etc.. and it is not news worthy. My father died from cancer. CANCER! That was a sad tragic loss that neither he nor we asked for nor had a hand in. The fact that PSH died from giving himself a drug makes me angry that this is considered major news. In addition to being mad about it being on the news over and over, I am also upset that no one is saying what I'm thinking. Everyone is all like it is so sad and so tragic. While I agree that in a way it is, it was also stupid, careless, and selfish of him to think more about getting high than the possible consequences to his actions. I am a mother of three. There is no way that I would ever knowingly take anything that could kill or impair me. I care about my kids far too much to take chances with my life and possibly leave them without a parent. Granted, when it is my time, it is my time but I will not have a hand in it or tempt fate in any way.

Grrrr. People aggravate me!

My Thoughts:

I love this series. You can read my review for the first book in the series here

First is a short novella written in Levi's POV. It basically retells the story of how he met Allie but, in his words instead of hers.

This novella is not a necessary read but for fans of the series (like me) it is a fun and interesting addition.

I enjoyed reading about the gang again especially Allie and Levi. :-) They are some of my favorite characters and it seems like forever since we've seen them. :-(

I liked this novella but I would have liked it more if it had went just a little further and said what he was thinking when he put the ring on her finger. Maybe Alyssa will write another novella detailing that? One can hope!

If it involves the pterons and Alyssa writes it, I'll be reading it for sure! :-)

Excerpt

A warm breeze ruffled the trees, and she glanced at her camera. The stupid tripod didn’t want to stay in place. She grumbled under her breath. Squatting down, she jiggled the tiny metal legs into the earth, hoping to steady it. A couple of rocks would help. She grabbed a few of the biggest ones and circled the tripod legs with them to keep it stable.

Long strands of frizzy hair kept falling forward out of her ponytail, tickling the side of her face. She tugged the annoying hair behind her ear and continued to mess with the tripod.

“Stupid, friggin’, piece of—”

A low growl sounded close. Too close. She whipped up to her feet, still holding one of the rocks in her hands and turned in a flash. Unfortunately, she was also one of the clumsiest people and tripped on her own feet. She lost her balance, and she fell on her ass.

“Carajo!”

A howl sounded from the ceremony site, and she scrambled to her knees to watch one of the wolves, she'd guess it was Marco because he was bigger, sniffing Kelly’s behind.

“Just like a man to go straight for the goods.” She snorted.

But she didn’t get a chance to keep watching. Something bumped her backside, pushing her forward. She tangled on the tripod and fell on her face.

“Oh, for crying out loud.” Clearly, she sucked at being inconspicuous. Strands of hair fell forward, covering her vision. She lifted on all four and flipped to sit on her ass. There he was, the one shifter that drove her absolutely crazy in every way possible.

“Spot? What are you doing here? And why did you bury your nose in my ass, you pervert?”

Not that it turned her on that he put his nose in her ass. It was…weird. He growled. The low deep sound twisted her belly into all kinds of knots. Oh, boy. She was in trouble. Staring at his cute furry face, she was very tempted to lift a hand and pet him.

Nathan, big, bad, sexy, pierced hunk of male candy stood not more than five feet in front of her in his wolf form. The form that looked like a cute Dalmatian-wolf with a white spot over his muzzle, hence the name she’d given him, “Spot.”

His eyes glittered in that golden shade from his animal. A shiver raced down her spine.

“I know how this must look, but it’s not what you think.” She felt like a moron talking to him when he was a giant wolf. He took a step toward her. She squiggled an inch further away. With a quick swipe, she moistened her dry lips with the tip of her tongue. “We were invited to be here. I swear.”

About the Author:

Hi! I'm Milly (AKA April Angel) I love to write sexy stories. They're usually either paranormal or contemporary with a large dose of heat. My paranormal stories can be anything from wolf-shifters (my favorites) to witches, demons and anything in between. My contemporaries are usually anything from soldiers to corporate romances.

I was born the prettiest part of the Caribbean known as the Dominican Republic. Currently, I live in New York City with my hubby, the bossy kiddo and our little dog "Needy Speedy". Don't ask.

When I'm not working some really long hours at the day job, or hanging out in the awful life-sucking invention known as Facebook, messaging my bestie in the UK or shopping with my sis Julie, then I can be found watching scary movies. Buuut when I'm not doing that, I'm usually writing because the voices won't shut up.

I am addicted to shoe shopping, chocolate (but who isn't, right?) and Dunkin' Donuts coffee.

Come on over and visit me! I love to meet new readers!

My Thoughts:

As with all of Milly's books, I really liked this book. The female characters are flirty, fun and feisty with a loyal streak a mile wide. These females are sisters of the heart and Heaven help you if you try to mess with one of them because you're going to have to deal with the whole group.

This is the second book in this series but it could easily stand alone. I wouldn't skip book one, Scent of a Mate  though because I really liked it as well!

These books are written in Milly's usual style, heavy on the hotness factor. ;-) I would only recommend this book and series to adults.

A Mate's Bite begins in the same way book one does. After the initial chapter, it is a book that has a much different plot. Don't be put off from reading it because the beginnings are similar!

In this book Karla is our leading lady though we still see interaction with all of the characters from book one. :D Karla has wanted Nate for as long as she can remember but lately she has been wondering if she should try to get over him as she is not getting younger and she'd love to have a family. Her imagined family will be nothing like the family that she had. Her mother was a piece of work. Her sister is even worse, especially when you consider that she is a triplet who doesn't interact with the other two unless she wants something from them or to cause them trouble. Thank goodness for her brother!

I don't want to give anything away. So I will just tell you what you'll be missing if you skip this one. You'd miss hot male werewolves, a feisty group of women who love to laugh, love and be loyal, lots of steam, some romance, loads of action, a bit of suspense, a dash of drama and a heaping helping of charismatic characters!

I definitely recommend this series to those of you who like werewolves, steamy books, or good characters.

I received an ecopy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was wolfishly wonderful!
