Review ~ PROTECTING SHAYLEE by Elle Christensen

http://www.tastybooktours.com/2015/03/protecting-shaylee-fae-guard-1-by-elle.html

Blurb

As a child, I believed in the fairytales my father told me.

Until he was gone and with him, that belief.

As a girl, I believed in the friendship and protection of Aden.

He made me begin to believe again.

As a woman, I believed in the possibility of love and passion between myself and Aden.

Until he was gone and with him, my belief in magic and happy endings.

When she was a child, I was tasked with her protection.

As a girl, I became her friend.

As a woman, I could no longer see the child I knew and was forced to fight a growing attraction.

Unable to lie and unable to tell the truth, I left.

Now I’ve returned to give the knowledge I couldn’t before, that she is half Fae.

The darkness is stalking her and I am desperate to teach her what she needs to know to protect herself.

And determined to make her mine.

Excerpt:

“Aden, what’s this?”

“My mark?” It dawns on me then that I forgot to explain about our mark. “I can’t believe I forgot.”

I glance back and see her furrowed brow, as she continues to trace the stained skin of my neck.

            “Fairy Wings?”

I laugh at the skepticism in her tone. “Seems clich√©, huh?” She raises a single eyebrow, waiting for me to expound upon my question.

“Where do you think the folklore came from, babe? Haven’t you wondered why you haven’t seen anyone here with wings?”

Her eyebrow descends and a sheepish look crosses her features. She shrugs, “I guess it crossed my mind once or twice, but I haven’t really thought about it.” She gives me a lopsided grin, the embarrassment in her eyes growing. “I guess I thought—um,” She stop and clears her throat, avoiding eye contact. Then she lets out a long sigh of acceptance. “I thought maybe I had to earn them.”

I try. I really, really try to hold back my laughter but it explodes out in a howl of mirth. Shaylee’s face turns bright red and her lips turn down into an annoyed pout. I get control of myself, and caress the side of her face, “You’re so damn cute.”

I'm a lover of all things books, I've been an obsessive reader since I learned how to spell! I've been writing novels and short stories since I was twelve, but they say to write the genre you love the most, so as an adult, I fell easily into writing romance. My husband is my biggest supporter and he's a great sport when it comes to fighting the people in my imagination for my attention. I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoy writing them!

My Thoughts:

An intriguing new take on the fae. :-) Elle Christensen made them her own and I enjoyed every minute of it.

I experienced surprise, suspense, romance, steam, excitement, danger, deception, and secrets.

I loved the interesting and charismatic characters. I am looking forward to finding out more about the secondary characters. :-)

There were a few parts that seemed to drag a little but most of it went by to fast for my liking. I just kept turning pages! Speaking of pages, there were a good many of them in this book.

If you like books about the fae, you should give this a go, I should know!

I received an ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion. I thought it was enchanting and exciting. I want more.
