Review ~ The Mate Challenge by Milly Taiden

Sassy Mates Book 4 ~ Emma and Mason

Emma Ferro wants nothing more than to accept Mason Wolfe’s offer to be his mate. He’s wild, sexy and can do things with his tongue that should be illegal. But Mason is also overwhelming her with his need to protect and keep her out of trouble. He needs to live and let live. It’s not like she’s killed anyone...yet. Until he learns she’s an independent woman, he’s going to stay waiting.

Mason Wolfe has a problem of the short, sassy and curvy kind. Every time he leaves Emma alone, he knows she’s going to get into trouble. It’s getting to the point he’s ready to slap a tracker on her butt just to keep his sanity. He’s busy holding down the pack, helping with fighting new rogues and a secondary threat that’s come to town.

When Emma goes searching for a missing girl, she finds a lot more going on in Blue Creek than even the biggest shifters are aware of. With the help of the least likely person, she’ll put herself on the line in order to save the ones she loves. Mason will have to find a way to help Emma or face losing her forever.

Reader Note: This book contains wild and growly sex (the hot and sweaty kind), adult language (dirty talk is our middle name), and violence. If this is not the kind of stuff you like to read, skip this book. However, if you like a domineering wolf on a mouthy curvy girl, then this is right up your alley. Enjoy!

Excerpt:

The first time she’d met him, she’d been visiting Ellie’s house to work on a project together and bam! Mason opened the front door, took one look at her and hauled her inside. What came next was something she’d never forget. She’d gotten a single look at Mason with his spiky short hair and crazy number of arm tattoos, nipple piercings and forgot how to talk. Then there was the immediate first kiss. Any other guy to try that and she’d have decked him, but Mason caught her off guard. He told her she was his and proceeded to kiss her like she was the love of his life. Stupid shifter and his sexy tongue. He’d destroyed her thinking ability way back when. Still, Emma wasn’t going to let some shifter tell her what to do. She didn’t care how sexy he was. She ignored his advances and proceeded to tell him she had a boyfriend, which she did at the time. Did he care? Not at all. He went on to tell her he’d wait because he knew in time she’d be his. Cocky asshole. Though Mason was an amazing man, he was a protector, which was sweet, but that led to him trying to tell her what to do. Her father had done that for too many years of her life and she was not going there again. Not with mutt.

My Thoughts:

As with all of Milly's book, I couldn't put it down.

I loved the characters. Emma was an independent kind of woman and Mason's caveman attitude rubbed her the wrong way except in the bedroom. ;-)

Mason did not mean to hurt his future mate's feelings but he worried for her because he couldn't bear for anything to happen to her and she seemed to forget that she was only human.

Here in lies the Mate Challenge. ;-) He tried to convince her to let him finish their mate bond and she kept putting him off.

I especially liked the scene, with Mamma Barbara and Mason. I laughed and laughed!

I think this has been my favorite of the Sassy Mates series so far. I have a feeling that I'll like a certain vampire's story as well. I hope that we get to read it soon, but I think Ellie's story will be next!

This book had shifters, lots of sexy scenes, romance, danger, great characters, snark and sass, agendas, and heroines that are pretty kick a**!

If you like shifters, you won't want to miss any of Milly's books!

I received an ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion. It was marvelous!

  1. I loved this one too! I still haven't read the rest of the series so coming in on this one I didn't have all the backstory but it was still a great fun read! Aria kicked butt! I plan on going back and reading all the others really soon!

    1. I read it as a stand-alone but I think it would probably be better to read it in order. Their relationship is already established from previous books. So it was sort of coming in late to like a movie.

    3. Yea I would. I mean it was fine if you end up reading out of order but with this one I felt like I really should have read the others.
