Review ~ Uncensored Passion by Bobbi Cole Meyer

SYNOPSIS

Book one in the Men of Passion Series: A contemporary erotic series about the passions and devotion of five men to the one woman who loves them all...

Kayla Saradon is a beautiful, respected psychiatrist who her friends claim has discovered the fountain of youth. Kayla wonders what her friends would say if they knew her secret is the polyandry lifestyle she shares with her four, studly "husbands" — each skilled in his own sexual specialty?

Then PI, Trey Sean Cameron, who is secretly investigating her lifestyle, explodes into her life. The ex-Army Special Forces operative raises emotions Kayla can neither control nor contain. Can Trey — a demanding and possessive lover — ever share in her lifestyle? If not, how far will she go to keep him?

Excerpt:

Pretending to be a reporter getting the inside scoop on Dr. Kayla Saradon’s life was turning out to be very enjoyable for Trey. They had finished the meal. Kayla declined dessert, so Trey ordered coffees, reluctant for their time together to end and sure it would when they left the restaurant.

They had settled into a silence that Trey was unsure how to break. He was thankful when Kayla took the initiative.

“Why don’t we continue the interview in your room, Devon? We could talk more privately there.”

He was both surprised and pleased as he met those extraordinary green eyes.

“That would be perfect. I would have suggested that, but I didn’t know what you would think. I wouldn’t want to compromise your—ah—reputation.”

Kayla laughed. “I don’t care what people say, Devon. I deal in truths, not innuendoes or rumors, and I have no patience with those who cater to that kind of subtle slander.”

Damn, she’s a woman after my own heart! “Good to know.”

He paid the check and they left the dining area. Kayla excused herself briefly in the lobby, walking away to make a quick phone call before rejoining him at the elevator.

Once in his room, Kayla immediately kicked off her shoes. She curled comfortably on the two-seater couch while Trey watched in utter fascination.

“Now, why don't you sit down beside me and get comfortable, as well, and let’s really talk,” she suggested, patting the place next to her.

Trey sat down but was far from feeling comfortable. Having her this close, he couldn’t help but visualize her on the bed, naked and inviting. He hoped his thoughts, growing warmer by the minute as he inhaled her enticing flowery perfume, wouldn’t become an embarrassment he couldn’t hide.

“I take it you had the proverbial perfect childhood, Kayla. All the luxuries, the right schools and so forth?”

“It wasn’t perfect by any means. But yes, I did have the opportunity for the best education. So it was probably better than a lot of others. My parents expected me to do well in school, and I did because I didn’t want to disappoint them. And actually I always strove for academic perfection for my own sake, as well, because I wanted to accomplish things and knew the proper education was the way to do that.”

Trey inwardly flinched, remembering those years when he had determinedly stayed in school, regardless of his hand-me-down clothes and the way some of the kids made fun of him in his younger years and then later, regardless of the times he had to go with his back and butt raw and sore from a beating. He had, however, managed to live through it and get that diploma that he, too, had felt was important, before he left to join the army.

“Tell me about your parents,” he said, to cover up his own bitter memory flashes.

“They were very socially conscious and expected me to be ever aware of how my actions reflected on our good name. If I could fault them for anything, it might be their overzealous desire for me to walk a social-acceptance line. That’s hard to do when you really want to ‘run with the bulls,’ if you know what I mean. But I was a dutiful daughter.

“I believe I read that they were killed in a car accident.”

“That’s right. Right after I graduated from university. You know, Devon, I’ve noticed that you aren’t taking notes. Do you have a photographic memory, by any chance?

Trey silently cursed his lack of judgment and decided to add yet another lie to the pile. “Yes, I do.”

“How interesting. We share that trait and I know that, at times, it becomes a nuisance, doesn’t it?”

Add to the pile! “So you are blessed, or maybe I should say cursed, the same way? And yes, it does sometimes.”

“From experience I know that those of us with photographic memories usually have total recall, yet in some instances not. So, tell me, do you recall every detail of practically everything said to you?”

God, it’s getting deep. “Not really. I’ve learned to block some things out, as I’m sure you have. But I assure you I will recall your every word, Kayla,” he said it in a soft, inviting tone that he hoped said more than just those words. He held her eyes as he smiled. She returned the smile and for a minute, they didn’t speak. There was no need for words. That electric current was vibrating between them again. Feeling drawn to her, overwhelmed by her nearness, Trey leaned toward her, his eyes holding fast on those inviting, luscious lips. Simultaneously, she leaned toward him and their lips touched, lightly at first. Then he pulled her closer, deepening the kiss, his tongue seeking hers, delving into her open and receptive mouth.

When their lips parted, he expected her to pull away, but she didn’t. He stood, pulling her up, and melded her against his rock-hard shaft wedged against her yielding body.

“I know this is unprofessional, but damn, Kayla, I want you.”

My Thoughts:

This book was interesting to say the least. There were parts that I really liked, parts that were just okay, and some that I didn't care for. Let me start with the parts that I did like.

#1. There was a happy ending! :-) I really liked it.

#2. All of the men were great (except for the antagonists). Trey and Harm were my favorites!

#3.  There were lots of extremely hot scenes.

#4. There were some surprises that no one will see coming.

The things that were only so-so:

Some of the "surprises" were hard for me to swallow. In other words ~ I liked that they kept you guessing but they were more on the sad and emotional side and you know how easily I am affected sometimes. I wasn't expecting them so it hit me harder than it may have.

Things that I didn't care for:

#1. I didn't really connect with the heroine. :-(  She seemed self centered, in addition to being spoiled, stubborn, and having a superior attitude. I seen her this way despite the book mentioning a few times that she didn't see herself in that manner. In this book, the guys made it.

#2. There was more steam than emotion. Other than when the big things happen, I didn't really "feel" their relationships. Even when some of those happened, I expected more of a reaction. Don't get me wrong,  they went through the motions and said their I love yous, I just didn't really feel it (except near the end).

I liked it more than I disliked it and I want to read the next book

What can you expect if you choose to read Uncensored Passion? Lots of steamy sex, a woman with four men that she considers her husbands, a man sent to investigate the woman who triggers an intense reaction in her, some mean and devious men with hidden agendas, lots of twists and turns, and a happy ending.

I will mention that there is absolutely no M/M in this book. No need to fear if that is not something you're into.

I received an ecopy in exchange for my honest opinion. If you like it hot and steamy, you should read this one!

Giveaway and Interview with Sharon Ashwood author of Possessed By A Warrior and Possessed By An Immortal

SHARON ASHWOOD

Sharon Ashwood is a novelist, desk jockey and enthusiast for the weird and spooky. She has an English literature degree but works as a finance geek. Interests include growing her to-be-read pile and playing with the toy graveyard on her desk. As a vegetarian, she freely admits the whole vampire/werewolf lifestyle would never work out, so she writes her adventures instead.

Sharon is the winner of the RITA® Award for Paranormal Romance. She lives in the Pacific Northwest and is owned by the Demon Lord of Kitty Badness.

I was able to have Sharon answer some questions for me! Here's what she wanted to share with you:

Do you have to concentrate and visualize the story or do ideas just randomly come to you when you're out and about?

Both. Characters tend to walk into my head at random, usually in the most inconvenient moments. They show up when I’m in budget meetings, or the grocery store, or when I’m trying to concentrate on something requiring a lot of focus. Or I might get a flash of a scene or setting vivid enough for me to forget what I’m doing. Lovely, but it’s a wonder I haven’t driven into a telephone pole before now.

When it comes to putting everything together into a coherent plot, though, I have to break out the sticky notes and spreadsheets. Otherwise I get a storyline that looks like a plateful of spaghetti.

Which of your characters are your favorite to write? the easiest? the hardest? the most fun?

I love figuring out characters and all their contradictions. I love a character who is funny and self-aware. They’re the best to hang out with.

Both as a reader and writer, I prefer protagonists who make a mess and then learn as they clean it up. If they’re doing everything right from page one, they’re pretty boring. And, the more flawed they are, the easier they are for me to write because I have a way into their psychology. What’s hardest is when a character—often a hero—is so private he won’t let me in. Not helpful!

How likely are you to suffer from road rage?

I don’t see the point in giving idiots that much of my energy. I run them over in a state of zen-like calm. LOL! Best answer ever!

Which do you prefer, beef, chicken, pork, or vegetarian? Vegetarian, please.

Are you more likely to wear a skirt or pants?  It’s about 50/50.

Inside or outside? Mostly inside, though not by choice. I work long hours! :-( I feel for you.

Homebody or social butterfly? Definitely homebody. I'm mostly a homebody too. :-)

What is your favorite flower? Sweet rockets and wild roses. I grew up on the prairie. Oh how nice!

What is your biggest weakness?

I have a homing device that will always lead me to the most expensive or impractical item in any store. It’s sad. I think my children have that same infliction. :-(

Pierced or not? Ears only, although my ego gets pierced fairly often.

What is the most un-useful gadget ever created?

Single use coffee makers. They generate so much waste packaging, it’s ridiculous. They are an environmental nightmare.

When shopping at the Mall, which type of store is more apt to tempt you?

I like quirky, home-grown independent businesses, whether they’re restaurants or clothing stores or anything else. I like to see local products and the individual tastes of the owner in what they have for sale. I like to get to know the people who run the place. Bookstores are, of course, an all-time favorite!

What do you think would surprise people about your book or about you?

Previous to embarking on my writing career, I had a successful career as a mortuary make-up artist and had the opportunity to interview dozens of vampires as research subjects. :D

Hardback, paperback, ebook or audio book?

All of the above, although I have been listening to more and more audiobooks. I walk to work, and it’s the perfect opportunity to sneak in some extra storytime.

What is your favorite supernatural creature? To read about? To write about?

I go through phases. Right now I’m fascinated by shifters, maybe because I’m curious about what my cat is thinking. Of course, if he was human he’d have a leather jacket and a detention record a mile long. He’s Dean Winchester without the good intentions. :-) I like all supes but shifters happen to have our top spot of adoration around here!

Excerpt:

Chloe,

If you’re reading this, I’m gone. Keep this secret and safe. When the story comes out, you’ll know what to do with it, and I know you’ll do the right thing. Trust Sam. Be careful.

Love you, kid,

Jack

Chloe reread the note. Trust Sam. Why? With what?

“What could it possibly be?” asked Littleton, a little breathlessly.

“Let’s find out,” said Ralston, lifting the large white box out of the otherwise empty safe.

Chloe took it out of his hands before he had taken one step away from the safe. “Uncle Jack left this for me, remember?”

His eyes flared with surprise, as if people rarely snatched loot out of his grasp. “I was just going to put it on the bed.”

Chloe looked up into his steel-gray glare and smiled sweetly. “Thanks. I can manage.”

Her heart kicked a little at Ralston’s frown—part fear, part perverse enjoyment. He was a bit too pushy for his own good. Trust Sam.

She walked the few steps to Jack’s orgy-sized bed. The whole room was in a black-and-white color scheme, making the scene look like a homage to liquorice allsorts. When she set the large white box on the ebony silk counterpane, the mystery of the package seemed even more emphatic.

The room was utterly silent, the rasp of Littleton’s rapid breathing the loudest sound in it. Chloe felt for the box’s opening. There was no tape. The lid lifted off, revealing a nest of blue-white tissue paper, the type meant to keep cloth from turning dingy with age. Ralston was at her elbow, close enough that her skin tingled with the breeze of his movements. Even now, her body felt magnetized to his nearness.

He pulled back one piece of tissue at the same moment that Chloe picked up the other. Despite the fact that they were strangers, they shared a look. It was utter astonishment.

“A wedding dress?” Chloe asked aloud. She touched the beaded bodice with one finger. The glittering stones were cold. Definitely not plastic. She’s seen a lot of dresses in her career, and she could tell the work was exquisite.

“What the hell?” Ralston looked utterly stunned. “Jack would never have married.”

“When the story comes out,” Chloe said, repeating the note Jack had left. “What story? What was Uncle Jack doing with a dress?”

Ralston’s eyebrows shot up with sudden dark amusement. “Well, it’s tiny. At least we know it wasn’t for him.”

Chloe smiled, but her mind was already racing ahead. There were only so many reasons Jack would lock something away for safekeeping, whether it was treasure or weapons or even a gorgeous dress: because it was valuable, because it was meant for someone important to Jack, or because dangerous people wanted it for the wrong reasons.

She was willing to bet the confection of lace and satin was all three.

April showers bring May flowers, I like to read for hours and hours!

Next to Fall, Spring is my favorite season. I love the pretty blooms and the bird songs that can be heard most mornings. :-)

It is still chilly some days and not extremely hot. Which means pants and a hoodie are just right!

That being said, I don't like the allergies that many suffer from. I have days where mine flare up too. I haven't figured out what I am allergic to. I am just thankful that they are not severe.

It is hard to read with swollen, itchy, watery eyes and a snuffy nose. With as often as I am caught reading (always), I would be super miserable if they acted up all the time.

Speaking of reading, I have been so happy with most of the books I've been reviewing lately! The only downfall to agreeing to review books, is that I don't have as much time to read the books that I've purchased or that are sitting on my shelf.

I don't know how to remedy this. I keep telling myself to cut back on my review books but then I'll get the chance to review another great sounding book and I agree. By the time I realize, my calender is full of reviews again.

What have you read lately or what are you waiting on?
