She turned around. Their chests brushed, and she gave him a half-smile. “I know Hannah might not blame me, but I do. A few more moments, it’s all we would have needed. I’d change it if I could.” When Cole opened his mouth, she placed her fingers on his lips to silence him. “I can’t, but I vow to do whatever it takes to catch this son-of-a-bitch.”

My Thoughts:

This book is meant for adults!
Wow! There is no chance of falling asleep while reading Awakenings. It was action packed from the get go. I didn't read the first book in this series, Illusions, and I had no problem following the story.

The plot had cops, drama, action, smoking hot scenes, some brutality (not too detailed), romance, and a missing little boy.
Alicia had lots of issues. She was struggling to keep it together after being kidnapped. She felt guilty and unworthy of people's affections. She was afraid that if she couldn't protect herself, she'd end up getting someone else hurt or killed. 
Alicia and Cole are in love with each other after spending one night together years prior. She is not herself and he is now her boss so they don't act on it at first. When they do though, it is hot hot hot!

I liked Awakenings and recommend it to anyone who likes cop stories with heat.
