Dark Lover by J.R. Ward
From the back of the book:
In the shadows of the night in Caldwell, New York, there's a deadly turf war going on between vampires and their slayers. There exists a secret band of brothers like no other-six vampire warriors, defenders of their race. Yet none of them relishes killing more than Wrath, the leader of The Black Dagger Brotherhood....
The only purebred vampire left on the planet, Wrath has a score to settle with the slayers who murdered his parents centuries ago. But, when one of his most trusted fighters is killed-- orphaning a half-breed daughter unaware of her heritage or her fate--Wrath must usher the beautiful female into the world of the undead....
Racked by a restlessness in her body that wasn't there before, Beth Randall is helpless against the dangerously sexy man who comes to her at night with shadows in his eyes. His tales of brotherhood and blood frighten her. But his touch ignites a dawning hunger that threatens to consume them both....
This is the first book in the BDB series and happens to be one of my favorites. When I first heard of this series, I thought that it would be too savage and that I wouldn't like it. Boy was I wrong! Thankfully I read a review on Amazon and I decided to give it a try.
This book is about the Blind King, Wrath and Beth, a human who will be going through the change to become a vampire. Beth has grown up longing for information about her parents. Her mother died giving birth to her and she never knew who her father was. Needless to say, she doesn't know that her father was a vampire so she is completely shocked when she finds out.
When the vampires go through their transition, they need to drink blood from a vampire of the opposite sex. Darius, Beth's father, asks Wrath to help his daughter through the change. He feels that because Wrath is full blooded that it might help his daughter's chances of survival. Wrath tells him to ask someone else and storms out not knowing that it is the last time he will see this brother. He decides to honor Darius's request and help Beth.
When he goes to her house to meet her things heat up between them. They feel drawn toward each other. There is a lot of action between them through out the book! This series is for adult eyes only!!!
There are many things going on at the same time. Dark Lover was a steamy, action packed beginning to what quickly became one of my favorite vampire series.
If you haven't tried this series yet, you are missing out. What have you got to lose? Give it a try! You will probably be glad that you did!
I'd love to know what you're thinking. Please leave a comment!
