Excerpt:

He held a white envelope against the glass and spoke again. “I have a letter from your father.”

She relaxed a smidge. He had the wrong person. Her father had died when she was six. But she couldn’t completely relax. He was still a stranger, and after this afternoon . . . . Whoever had tried to run her over still hadn’t been caught. And maybe she’d heard him wrong. Her car was running and the windows were shut.

She took her left hand off the steering wheel and cracked her window a quarter of an inch so she could hear him better. “I’m sorry, what did you say?”

“I have a letter from your father.”

“I think you have the wrong person.”

“Alessandra Noelle?”

Lessa hesitated, her right hand tightening on the steering wheel. “Yes.”

“You’re the correct person.” His voice was low and soothing.

But it had the opposite effect on her nerves. She shook her head. “I can’t be. My father died nearly twenty years ago.”

He hesitated this time and she focused on his face. The security light cast him in harsh shadows. He wore a dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up and a tie. No suit jacket. Probably a concession to the heat. His dark hair was brushed back off his face and his eyes appeared as dark in the night.

His lips firmed into a frown before he spoke again. “No, he didn’t. He died two days ago.”

My Thoughts:

Mafia Secret got off to a thrilling start and held my attention the whole way till the end.

Lessa goes from a near mishap to having a man tell her that her father has died. She is taken aback because her dad died when she was a little girl. The man, who's name is Marco, insists that he was not her real father. Talk about a shocking revelation!

Marco says that her father wanted her to come and meet the rest of his family. She feels compelled to go, especially if it means getting away from the threatening letters that she's been receiving.

Her brothers and sister are completely surprised by her presence and her Father's wife is furious and wants her gone.

Marco talks her into staying at least until after the funeral. She slowly gets to know the family. Things heat up between her and Marco too. ;-)

The plot had secrets, schemes, romance, action, a mafia family, more action, some drama, and some twisty turns.

I really liked this book and I truly hope that there will be books about the other family members.

I received a copy of this book from Tasty Book Tours in exchange for my honest opinion. I honestly liked it. :-)

If you you were approached and told that your father died and he wanted you to meet his family, would you feel obligated to honor his last request?

ARC Review ~ Catalyst by Jennifer Snyder

Sometimes who we really are lies buried just beneath the surface…

After learning she’s inherited a house in the beachside town of Soul Harbor, Georgia, Addison Harmon and her best friend decided to take a much needed vacation before the pressures of life after high school suffocate them too heavily.

But what Addison finds isn’t a chance to recoup from a bad break up and hang out with her best friend while she decides what she wants to do with her future. What she finds is Kace Sullivan—a sexy guy she can’t seem to get enough of—someone who with one touch reveals a seductive world full of magick and secrets Addison isn’t sure she’s ready to be a part of.

About the Author:

My Thoughts:

Catalyst was a quick read. I was so engrossed in the story that time just flew by and before I knew it I was finishing the last page.

Jennifer really knows how to pull you in. Each of her books that I've read have been that way for me. Catalyst was no different!

The story focuses on Elementals, people that have magick. Each one of them can work with one element water, earth, wind or fire. However in order for them to use their magick, all four have to be present together.

Apparently when Addison moves into the house her deceased biological mother left her it enables three other elementals to feel their magick too. The only difference is that they know about magick and she doesn't. She is the catalyst that will enable them to use their magick!

In this book Addison begins learning about her biological family and the magick that she holds inside herself.

While she is discovering herself and uncovering secrets, someone is out to get her.

This was a fantastic beginning to a magickal new series.

In between the pages of this book you will find sacrifice, love, secrets, romance, magick, cats, hoodoo, a scary soul sucking creature, and an ending that you will not see coming!

I recommend this book for those of you who like magickal stories.

I received an ARC copy from the author in exchange for my honest opinion.

I thought it was really good. It was a super start for what I'm sure will be a spell binding series. Bring on the next book! I am more than ready for it. :D

If you were an elemental which would you hope to wield, earth, fire, water, or wind?

Julie poked her head around the corner in time to see Tristan making his way down the long hallway. She quickly got back to work, annoyed that he’d gone so far with his investigation. Their voices had carried well into the kitchen during the heat of their argument. She’d been tempted to intervene, but knew better than to interfere with Alpha business.

Padding into the room, Tristan eyed Julie standing next to the stove, pouring the broth into Tupperware containers.

“She sleeping?” Julie asked, already aware of the answer. He’d been down in her room for well over an hour, sitting in total silence, watching Kalli sleep, and she found it curious that he was taking such an interest in the injured human woman.

“You didn’t bring the soup,” he commented.

“You were busy,” she curtly replied.

“What gives, Jules? Just say it.”

“I guess it shouldn’t surprise me that you don’t take direction well, Alpha. Although I guess you’re more used to giving directions than taking them,” she huffed. “I could hear the ruckus all the way in here. No disrespect intended, but I did say not to upset her, didn’t I?”

“Yeah well, it’s not easy being king,” he remarked with a smart-assed inflection, grabbing a bowl of soup. He sat down at the counter and began eating while she finished working.

“Sorry, I don’t mean to be so hard on you. I know you’ve gotta do what you’ve gotta do. It’s just that seeing her like that….all those scrapes and bruises and bite marks. My God, she was a mess. I suppose I’m going a little mother hen on you. I’m not used to having to deal with such violence. You are good to us, here.”

“No worries. We worked it out. She’s a tough one, you know. Believe me; she’ll be right as rain, soon. My spidey sense tells me so,” he joked.

“All right then, I’m going to leave you some crackers and ginger ale to put next to her bed in case she wakes up in the middle of the night starving. I was able to get a little bit of the electrolyte fluid into her before she woke up all the way. I have to say that it’s unusual for a human not to be dehydrated. I guess she must have been really, really healthy before this happened to her. It’s almost as if…well, never mind.”

Tristan stopped eating and stared over at Julie, who looked deep in thought. “What is it?”

“Oh, I’m just being crazy. I was just going to say that it’s almost as if she had the constitution of a wolf. Silly, huh?”

“Yeah, silly.” Tristan bit into a cracker, considering her assessment. Silly? Or right on target? He felt it too. Something about that woman wasn’t exactly human, but then again, she wasn’t at all supernatural.

Julie gathered up her purse and gave Tristan a quick hug and kiss on the cheek. “Okay, hun, well, call me if you need anything. I’ll stop by tomorrow to check on our girl. Maybe bring up some clothes for her, too. Get some rest, okay? Love ya!” she chirped as she entered the elevator and the doors slid shut.

Tristan reveled in the quietness surrounding him. He needed to think about his next steps, his strategy. He planned to bring in a sketch artist, so they could put a face to the arsonists. The meeting with Jax Chandler was in another two days, and he needed to get his shit together before it all went down. Throwing his bowl in the sink, he went to take a hot shower. He needed to think, without his libido interfering. It was as if he’d just been given a few more pieces of a jigsaw puzzle for which he didn’t have the picture. But he was cunning, and that’s what he did best, work with the impossible to make the possible happen. He was Alpha.

My Thoughts:

This is the third book in the Immortals of New Orleans series and it can easily stand alone. Only adults should read this one. ;-)

Poor Tristan, someone burnt down his club and shot one of his brother's wolves too. He'll do whatever it takes to get retribution. A woman is shown on the video taking Tristan's pet snake. This is his only clue.

He finds his suspect being tortured by a vampire. He rescues her and then questions her when she's capable of answering him. The attraction is pretty much instantaneous. However, he believes she's human. Tristan tries to play off the attraction as good old fashioned lust.

Poor Kalli wakes up after being rescued from the vampires just to be interrogated by an Alpha wolf. She thinks she knows all about them. After all she used to belong to a pack. Aren't they all the same?

She finds out the answer to that question is no. Tristan is nothing like the cruel abusive alpha that she ran away from. His pack doesn't do the type of monstrous deeds her old pack did either.

She is hiding a HUGE secret. Eventually she decides to share it with Tristan but it is almost too little too late.

Wow! This book had action, growling, hot steamy scenes, some drama, werewolves, and vampires too! Oh and did I mention there are puppies? :-)

I really liked watching Kalli and Tristan grow closer. There were some really sweet moments. ;-) There were some sad moments, and I laughed quite a few times too!

It amazes me when I find a series like this one that have multiple books out that I have somehow completely missed. How does that happen? Anyway, I know about it now and you better believe I'm on board for the next book.

I recommend this book, especially to all my wolf reading friends.

I received a copy of this book from Bewitching Book Tours in exchange for my honest opinion. Honestly I really liked this scorcher! ;-)

For those of you who are like me and somehow missed this series, here are the deets for the first two books, along with a chance to win your choice of book from the series to be awarded from Amazon! :D

Excerpt:

Prologue

“A spell … ” Hope mused, then her face lit up. “If there’s a spell to attract a man to a woman, there must be one to repel women from a man. Right?”

“Spells shouldn’t involve negative energy. Sending out negative energy can cause it to return threefold. They aren’t intended to harm someone or make them do something against their will.” Jordan had drilled this into her head.

“I wouldn’t be making Kyle do anything against his will. I’d be warning women to stay away from him.”

Sounded borderline.

“Please,” Hope whined, picking a clump of batter from her long, wavy hair.

Monica let out a defeated groan. “All right.” Hope would never actually cast the spell anyway. When they were young, Hope refused to wear a Casper costume for Halloween because she didn’t believe in ghosts. She was closed-minded when it came to paranormal or New Age beliefs. And you had to truly believe in a spell for it to work.

Monica set down the bowl of salt and grabbed a pencil and pad of paper off her desk and handed them to Hope. “Write this down. It’s called,” she tapped a hot pink nail against her lip, “the dirtbag spell. Take one of Kyle’s socks, fill it with dirt, and add a photo of him. It’s critical you aren’t in the photo.” Monica paced, tightening the sash on her lavender silk robe. “Include something of his like … ”

“His new Rolex?”

Personally, Monica would list the watch on eBay and pray for a bidding war. But Hope, no matter how ticked off, was too timid to sell Kyle’s precious watch, and too frugal to risk damaging it by mixing it with dirt.

“That’s fine. Sew up the sock and bury it in your front yard. It’ll warn all women he’s a dirtbag.”

Hope poised the pencil against her lower lip, reviewing the spell. “Don’t I have to say something when I bury it, like a chant?”

What happened to being spell ignorant?

“Bury it in the moonlight while saying … ” Monica scrambled for a few rhyming lines, “moonlight, glowing bright, warn all women in your sight, the man who lives in this house, is a dirtbag and a total louse.”

“Perfect.” Hope sprang from the bed, looking inspired. “Kyle’s at work. I’m going over to the house right now to bury that sock.” She turned and marched out, a woman on a mission.

Monica nibbled nervously on her fingernail. Hope wouldn’t seriously go through with casting the spell, would she? A big part of spell casting was psychological, focusing all your energy on making something happen. Monica had never seen Hope look so determined, or vindictive. Hopefully, if she did cast the spell the negative energy didn’t return threefold.

What was the worst that could happen?

About the author:

Eliza Daly’s first attempt at creative writing was in fourth grade. She and her friends were huge Charlie’s Angels fans and she would sit in her bedroom at night writing scripts for them to act out at recess the following day. She was Kelly Garrett. Fast forward to the present, she’s still writing stories about beautiful women who always get their men. The journey from fourth grade script writer to published author wasn’t an easy one, but it was always an adventure and the final destination was well worth it.

When Eliza isn’t traveling for her job as an event planner, or tracing her ancestry roots through Ireland, she’s at home in Milwaukee working on her next novel, bouncing ideas off her husband Mark, and her cats Quigley, Frankie, and Sammy.

My Thoughts:

This book was cute. There were many funny moments. There is a whole lot of smoking going on (the steamy kind)! There is one scene in a restaurant that may shock you.

This is an opposites attract book if I've ever read one. Monica believes in love and happiness. Reed is a divorce lawyer who doesn't believe in love.

It was fun to watch the sparks fly between these two. ;-)

I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest opinion. It was a fun steamy read and I enjoyed it.

About the Author:

I was born in Philadelphia but grew up primarily in Seattle where I think I got a little rusty from all that rain! My family and I moved to L.A. during my senior year in high school and I graduated from the College of Creative Studies at UC Santa Barbara with a degree in Literature. I later moved to the east coast and ran the New York City Marathon in 1991. (At 5 hours, 12 minutes, fast I was not.) I now live in sunny Denver, Colorado with my husband Ben and our beautiful baby boy, Cole. In my rare spare time, I like to cook, garden and work on the endless renovations of our 1922 bungalow.

Website / Goodreads  / Email

My Thoughts:

This was a cute, touching, somewhat bittersweet romance.

Greta and her mother live and work in what is known as The Gingerbread House. The house along with many others in the neighborhood are being threatened. Stephanie Harwood (Greta's Nemesis) has half of the town sold on the idea of a mall. The mall would be placed where Greta and the rest of her neighborhood live.

Let me just say that where Greta and her mother were sweet as can be Stephanie was pure wretchedness. She truly didn't care that she was wrecking people's lives. She got a thrill from making Greta look bad.

Gray, Stephanie's fiance enters the scene when he takes an antique dress that was his mothers to Greta's wedding shoppe to get repaired.  Greta and Gray hit it off right away. And then Stephanie happens along to blind side them both.

As much as I enjoyed the drama over the house, what touched me the most was how Greta handled her mother's newly discovered Alzheimer's. This is one of the many things that help her and Gray relate to each other. His father is also suffering from the disease only his is way more pronounced.

Greta and Gray keep fighting the chemistry that they have each time they are thrown together. This is the first time in a long time that Greta has even felt this way about a man. She had been abused by her ex husband and is leery of men with good reason.

I received a copy of the book from the author in exchange for my honest opinion. Thank you Nell!

Long story short, this is a wonderfully written, heart wrenching, happily ending story. I really enjoyed it and I would recommend it. :D
