Month One of the WOTO series Challenge!

The challenge this month was to read Bitten by Kelley Armstrong.

Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1)

This is the first book in the Women of the Otherworld series and I'm glad.  Bitten contains my favorite characters. I don't know if I would have read the series otherwise. The characters in question are non other than Clayton Danvers and Elena Michaels. If you've read this series than you know what I'm talking about if you haven't then you have some serious catching up to do!

Bitten is about Elena who happens to be the only female werewolf. She is angry at Clay and trying to live her life away from the pack. Why is she angry at Clay? He is the one who bit her and turned her. He had his reasons but she can't seem to get over her anger. She tries to put distance between herself and the pack foolishly thinking that it will change things. She thinks that it will give her more control over her life and that she can choose to be more human and less werewolf. She tries to fit in with the humans even though she never really did before she was changed.

The book opens with her trying to fit in with her human boyfriend who has no clue that she is a werewolf. She gets called to come home to Stonehaven and the pack. She is angry that they won't just leave her alone. She gets over it as she finds out what is going on and gets drawn into it more and more. When two of her pack members are murdered she knows that someone must pay! She is bound and determined to see that it happens one way or another!

The story has a lot of action and some sweet moments between Clay and Elena too!!! Elena is a kick a** heroine! She is strong and resourceful and I would not want to be on her bad side. Clay is sooo sweet with her. They are truly perfect for each other. I love the way the characters interact with each other. The pack truly is like a real family!!!

The first chapter or two are a little boring but if you really give the book a chance, it makes up for it. I'm so glad that I didn't put it on the shelf to finish later because I would have missed a really good book. This was one of the first werewolf books that I read and I loved it so much that I've been devouring werewolf books since!  Who knows if I'd have the werewolf mania that I do if I hadn't finished reading Bitten! I shudder to think of all the great books that I might have missed including this one.

If you haven't already read Bitten I strongly suggest that you do. It is awesome!

I also suggest reading Men of the Otherworld also by Kelley Armstrong. It contains the story of how Clay and Elena first met and fell in love. :D

Review: Shepherd's Moon by Stacy Mantle

Shepherd's Moon (The Shepherds, #1)
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

In Shepherd's Moon the main character is Alexandra Wilde. She is a shepherd. That means that she has the ability to talk to animals and weres in their head and even control them if need be. It is a pretty demanding task!

Alex and her pack of various shifters, rescued a mother jaguar and her cubs from a very bad situation. In doing so she broke some laws and now has to work for the police when they require her services. Lately she is being called in more and more.

Things escalate when she begins to find creatures that she cannot read. It is unheard of! About the same time, a new member appears on her boss's team. She has a hard time deciding whether he is a friend or foe. She only knows that he is a thorn in her side and she does not trust him!

Things continue to escalate and they need to find out who is doing this and stop them! The plot has a lot of action and adventure. I would not want to be on Alex's bad side!

Shepherd's moon was enjoyable. It was completely different from the other shifter books that I've read. I only have two complaints. It seemed to drag on in some places and I found myself looking to see how many more pages I had left. Also there are a few hints of romance in the book but I would have liked to see more! I'm hoping that Stacy Mantle will give us more of that in the next book.

I recommend this to anyone who wants to read a new take on shifters, or who likes action and adventure.

I received an ebook copy of this book from Goodreads in exchange for an honest review.

Review: don't expect magic by Kathy McCullough

Don't Expect MagicMy rating: 3 of 5 stars

don't expect magic by Kathy McCullough was a fun, sweet YA read. Delaney Collins is going through a tough time. She has to leave her home and best friend to live with her dad after her mom dies. She doesn't want to spend time with the drive by dad that never made time for her. Even worse than that is the new school that she has to go to with all of the too happy pod like people that inhabit it!

It is fun to watch as she finds her way making mistake after mistake.

She finds out that her dad is a fairy godmother. She begins to wonder if she is too. She tries and tries and just when she's about to give up, she makes something happen.

This book was funny and charming. It had a cute plot that was easy to follow. The romance was sweet.

I enjoyed it and recommend it to anyone looking for a sweet, fun YA book to read.

Review: Daddy's Girl by J.J. Massa

Daddy's Girl

As usual with J.J. Massa's books, I enjoyed Daddy's Girl. It was a cute, fast, hot read!

In this story The main character is Tabby Baker. She is the secret daughter of the President. They have a great relationship but the public doesn't know that she exists! She stops at a bar for a drink and is mugged when she is leaving. Luckily Garth Cavanaugh is there and stops her mugger from getting away. One thing leads to another and they begin to see each other. He knows that she is hiding something or someone and is determined to find out. He misunderstands something and things happen. The story gets even better but I don't want to spoil anything!

This was a good story. The plot was full of action, mystery, romance and some steamy sex scenes! It was a fast moving read and was over before I knew it.

I would recommend this to anyone who likes steamy adult romance books.

I won this ebook from a contest.

A Guest post by Destined author Jessie Harrell!

So You Want to Buy Indie
Indie is in! Everything from Indie book stores, to boutiques, to music. It only makes sense that as authors are taking the time to professionally edit their novels and get top-notch covers, the Indie novel movement is catching on too. And let's face it, when Indie novels are just as enticing, at a fraction of the cost as a traditionally published novel, what's not to love?

But you may feel daunted by the task of finding the Indie novels that fit your tastes. After all, you don't want to read someone's first draft that they slapped a pretty cover on. And there are SO MANY novels out there. How do you pick without getting overrun?

Here are just a few of the ways that I find Indie reads:

Keep your eyes peeled for sales or free copies. Sign up for newsletters from these companies or like them on Facebook or Twitter. (I'm sure there are new ones cropping up daily, but these are just a few that are on my radar.)
Kindle Nation Daily - http://kindlenationdaily.com/
Pikel of Ink - http://www.pixelofink.com/
RG2E -- http://thereadersguidetoepublishing.wordpress.com/
Kindle Fire Department - https://www.facebook.com/kindlefireapps?sk=wall

Read excerpts. You'll know pretty quickly whether you like a book or not once you start reading it. Why pay for the book before you know? Of course, there are look inside options on Amazon, but you can get up to 20% of many books for free before you buy. Check out Smashwords (just to use Destined as an example, you can get the first 20% here http://www.smashwords.com/books/view/105138) and Wattpad to see what samples are available in your favorite genre.

Get recommendations from others. Follow blogs that recommend Indie authors, try a Google search or Goodreads list (for example - did you know there's a list dedicated to self-published YA novels - http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/6674.Self_Published_Young_Adult_Books), or even check the recommendations from Amazon based on books you know you already like. Most of the time, you'll get a range of honest opinions that will give you a hint about whether the book will be something you like.

Anthologies - Indie authors sometimes team up to produce free or low-cost anthologies. You'll get a collection of great short stories and learn whether or not you like the writing style and voice of a particular author. In the YA genre, some examples include: IN HIS EYES and LOVE, ME.

Those are my general tips and tricks. I hope you'll take a little time to find some excellent, low-cost Indie reads. After all, it's easy to fall for the big-house-backed covers and the media blitz of traditionally published novels, but you just might find your new favorite story is written by an author courageous enough to strike out on her own.

Indie Author Jessie Harrell will be doing a guest post tomorrow! She'll be sharing tips for where to find and buy Indie books!!!

You don't want to miss it!

Interview and Giveaway with Indie author Sarra Cannon

I want to welcome Sarra Cannon to the blog.

She's the gifted author of the Peachville High Demon series.

She has graciously donated an ebook for me to giveaway!

Thank you Sarra.

Sarra Cannon grew up in a small town in Georgia where she learned that being popular always comes at a price.

Now, she lives in North Carolina with her amazing husband and her teeny tiny Pomeranian, Snickerdoodle. Books and music are her greatest passions. She has never been a cheerleader, but it's possible she knows a few things about casting spells.

Without further ado, the interview:

What is your favorite thing about writing?

My favorite thing about writing is getting lost in the story. Even if I think I know where the story is going, the characters always surprise me. I love that!

Which of your characters is your favorite to write? the easiest? the hardest?

Right now, Harper is definitely my favorite character to write. At this point, I feel like I know her so well that her voice just becomes one with mine the moment I sit down to write a scene from the book. I guess that also makes her the easiest character for me to write. Jackson, on the other hand, is one of the hardest characters for me to write. He's such a mystery sometimes to Harper, and I think that makes him a mystery to me too. He reveals himself slowly in some ways, and I find myself waiting to figure out what he'll do next.

What are you working on and when can we expect it to be out?

I am currently working on the sixth and final book of the Peachville High Demons series, DEMONS FOREVER. I don't have a release date set yet, but I am hoping for May. Since I'm expecting my first baby this June, I definitely want to have the book out before he comes!

Do you write down ideas or do you put everything on your computer?

Much to my husband's dismay, I still write a lot of my ideas out by hand! He thinks I should move everything to my computer, but he doesn't understand my need to use colorful post-its and pens and papers to plot out my story and characters. There's just something about the hands-on experience of it that still speaks to me. All of my actual writing, on the other hand, is done on the computer. It's just my notes and such that are handwritten.

Which new release are you most looking forward to reading?

I am actually really looking forward to Karen Amanda Hooper's new book, Grasping at Eternity. This will be her first self-published book, so I'm really rooting for her. It's expected to release this May, and I can't wait! The story is about reincarnated souls, and that's something I've always been really interested in. You can read more about it on her goodreads page Here.

Do you prefer to go to the theater or wait for the DVD?

Theater for sure! IMAX 3D if it's an option! I love sitting toward the front so the screen takes up my whole vision, haha. Movies are so much better when you can watch them on the big screen with a Sprite in one hand and a large popcorn in the other. My husband and I go out to the movies at least two or three times a month.

What is your favorite snack? favorite candy?

Do cupcakes count? OMG, I have such a sweet tooth!! My ultimate favorite candy is skittles. I could literally sit down and eat an entire bag. Of course, sour patch kids are a close second!
Of course cupcakes count!

How likely are you to suffer from road rage?

Not very likely. I get frustrated pretty easily with bad drivers, but I don't really rage on them. I'm more of a mumble-under-my-breath kind of driver, haha.

Beef, chicken, pork, or vegetarian?

Chicken! Although, I do love a good steak.

What is your favorite color?

This is such a tough question!! I think I go through phases where I'm addicted to one color and will dye my hair, paint my nails and use pens in just that one color. But then I'll get tired of it and move on to another color the next month. Right now, I'm going through a royal blue phase.

What is your least favorite chore?

All of them! I hate cleaning the house, but it's a necessary evil. I don't even want to think about how things will be around here with a little baby in the house! Maybe it's because of my more 'artistic' tendencies, but I'm just not good at organizing things, so housework and cleaning drives me insane.

Wow. we are like two peas in a pod. No one would ever call me a Domestic Diva. It gets done but not happily! I'm not a whistle while you work kinda girl. : )

Homebody or social butterfly?

Hmm. Can I be both? I love hanging out at the house with my hubby, but I also like meeting new people and going out. I have a feeling with a new baby in the house, I'll be more of a homebody for the next couple of years.

Yes, you can definitely be both. I'm that way too. Although, typically people tend to lean more towards one or the other.

Night or Day?

Night for sure. I've always been a night owl. It's the time when I get most of my writing done. I'm definitely NOT a morning person, haha. I tend to stay up until about 2am most nights, but I'm sure my schedule is about to change pretty drastically with the baby!

What type of music do you listen to?

Almost every type. I listen to everything from Opera to Country. My favorite band is Dave Matthews, but I also love Eminem and Taylor Swift. I have weird tastes :P
I understand. I'm like that too. I like a mixture but I'm not fond of Opera!

Thank you so much for taking the time to answer my questions and for graciously donating a book for the giveaway. I really appreciate it!

Thank you so much for asking me to be a part of the blog hop!! I'm truly honored to be involved!!!

Icarus; The Kindred by J.S. Chancellor

Icarus; The Kindred
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I don't know where to begin. Icarus; The Kindred was unlike anything that I've ever read before. Everything was completely new and different in this vampire story! I didn't have any moments that felt like deja vu! Lately deja vu has become a very common  occurrence in the paranormal books.

The main character is Jessie Slate assassin extraordinaire. At least that's who she thinks she is. She is going about her business doing her job. Next thing you know she's been kidnapped and these people are telling her that everything that she believes is a lie. She doesn't know these people but they seem to know her. Jacelynd's seems very familiar. She's been dreaming of him for ten years.

She manages to escape them and calls Trinity. He comes to get her and next thing you know she's blood tithed to him. He then tells her that those people weren't lying. He goes on to tell her that Jacelynd was her husband up until she blood tithed him. She obviously feels betrayed. She escapes him and finds Jacelynd again.

There is soooo much going on but trust me, the experience will be better if you read it yourself. No Spoilers here!
There is so much intrigue, mystery, action, and excitement wrapped up in this book that I can't begin to describe it to you. Every time I thought I knew what was going on, it changed! There are twists and turns around every corner. I truly was on the edge of my seat a number of times.

There is a love triangle involving Jessie, Jacelynd and Trinity. It's not a very involved and drawn out ordeal though! As soon as she starts to remember her past, she knows who her heart truly belongs to. The romance is mostly sweet.

There are bad guys aplenty and it takes awhile to figure out just who some of them really are.

If you like vampire books, a great plot, some romance, and kick a** heroines, this is a must read!!!

I received a pdf copy from Rhemalda Publishing in exchange for an honest review.

You can get your copy from  Amazon  or  Barnes & Noble .

Interview with Indie Author C.K. Bryant

I'd like to welcome C. K. Bryant!

She is the talented author of Bound.

She is a very kind woman also. She was the second person to follow my blog and the first author to respond to my interview request. :D I have much love for her.

What do you hope people get out of reading Bound? First and foremost, I want the reader to be thoroughly entertained and feel like they are a part of the story. I want them to love the characters and feel invested in what happens to them. If they get more out of the story, so much the  better.

What part of writing do you find the most challenging? Keeping my butt glued to the chair. There are so many distractions in my life these days, it's hard to stay focused.

Do you have to concentrate and visualize the story or do ideas just randomly come to you when you're out and about? Both. There are times when I lay awake all night long because my overactive imagination won't shut down. But then when I'm stuck on something, and my muse goes on vacation, I feel like I'm prying the ideas out of my brain with a crowbar.

In what scenario do you do your best work? I like to write in complete silence. I don't even like to play music when I'm in the creative stage. I need to get into what I call my ZONE and I can't do that if I have outside influences.

What are you working on and when can we expect it to be out? I'm currently doing revisions on BROKEN, the sequel to BOUND. I hope to have it to my editor by the end of March and available for purchase by the beginning of May. *fingers crossed*

Now for some personal questions!

Who is your favorite author? Catherine Anderson. She writes great romance novels. I grew up reading her books and it's what got me interested in writing my own stories. It wasn't until I wrote my first romance, that I discovered I preferred working with younger characters. YA is now my genre of choice.

Hardback, paperback, or ebook? There's nothing like a signed hardback, but I do love my Kindle. If the book is really good, I'll buy both. I know, not very cost effective.

Do you have any hobbies? I love to read. I used to play the guitar, but don't have time for that anymore. I also like to do crafty things, like scrapbooking, sewing, etc.

What is your favorite splurge? Getting my hair and nails done. I love being pampered.

What is your favorite season? favorite holiday? I LOVE SPRING!! I love the smell of freshly turned soil and all the new flowers blooming all over. Holiday? Valentine's Day. I'm a romantic at heart. :-)

Breakfast, lunch,or dinner which meal is your favorite? I'd have to say lunch, but only because that's the meal I occasionally get to share with my friends.

Quiet or loud? Depends on my mood and what I'm doing at the time. Writing? Quite. Housework? Crank up the tunes. Driving? Even louder.

Fresh air or air conditioning? Fresh mountain air!!

How do you prefer to communicate ( in person, texting, email, or phone)? Depends. I love texting if I don't have a lot to say. Not a big "in person" or "phone" kind of gal. Yep, I'm a bit of a recluse.

If you suddenly had two free hours, how would you spend them? WRITING! Honestly, it is my passion. That being said, I'd love a vacation in the Bahamas. ;-)

How likely are you to suffer from road rage? Ha! Not answering this question. It might get me arrested. ;-)

Thank you so much for taking the time to stop by my Blog.

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. :D

Thanks so much for the interview, Brenda.

Interview & Giveaway with Angela Carlie

I'd like to welcome Angela Carlie!

She is an amazing Indie author.

She's written many awesome books

I loved Loramendi's Story. : )

<3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3 <3

She has generously offered a book for a giveaway!

Now without further ado, the interview:

What do you hope people get out of reading your book? That depends on the book. I wrote Dream Smashers with the hopes of connecting with people who are struggling with a loved one who is an addict. A lot of books for teens that deal with addiction usually gives the addict's side of the story. I wanted to delve into the other victims' story--the family members, friends, and children. Those are the peeps who have no control over the addiction, but still suffer. Those are the peeps who have to make the painful decision to let go--and sometimes that's all they can do.

My other books are to entertain. Although I do hope readers take certain elements from the stories, I'd like to let everyone decide what it is they get from it. Everyone takes something different.

Which of your characters is your favorite to write? My most favorite character thus far is definitely Jess from Spider Wars. She's tough has a lot of personality to spill all over the pages.

What are you working on and when can we expect it to be out? I just released the second book in the Lords of Shifters series--Spider Wars is available in eBook format on Amazon  and  Smashwords. Soon, it should be available wherever ebooks are sold. :D

What is your favorite thing about writing?  Creation.

I just love that answer. :o)

Here are some questions just for fun to get to know you better.

Do you prefer to go to the theater or wait for the DVD? I like both--really depends on what mood I'm in.

What is your favorite color? I'm a moody person. It varies on how I'm feeling. Right now I like greens and purples.

If you could pick any destination, where would you go? I'd love to take my dad to Australia. He visited there briefly while in Vietnam and he's always wanted to go back.

Hardback, paperback, or ebook? Right now I'm a fan of ebooks.

Are you more likely to wear a skirt or pants? Definitely pants.

What type of music do you listen to? All types.

Beef, chicken, pork, or vegetarian? Vegetarian is the only way for me.

Least favorite chore? I dislike all chores and avoid them as much as possible.

Homebody or social butterfly? Homebody

Inside or outside? Outside

Elevator or stairs? hahahaha! How many stairs are we talking?

Thank you for taking the time to stop by my blog!

I appreciate you taking the time to answer my questions. :D

May a rainbow be certain to follow each rain. May the hand of a friend always be near you. May God fill your heart with gladness to cheer you.

I wish you all the best on St. Patrick's Day and always!

Thank you for stopping by. I'd love to know what you're thinking!

I'm reading Icarus; the Kindred by J.S. Chancellor.

Icarus; The Kindred

From Goodreads:

Don t get me wrong; immortality does have its perks. Take dieting for example kind of hard to do when you ve only got two choices: fresh blood and slightly less fresh blood. The media makes it all out to be glamorous. Romantic, even. But the books, movies and witty television shows have it wrong. Especially the ones that make a big to-do about not being wrong (you know, the ones that spell vampire Vampyr, like it 's original). And don t think for a second that I was turned in some amazing, soul-binding, body-meshing way either. I don t think my libido is damaged enough to forget that kind of rendezvous. Though, to be honest, I don t recall anything about it. As soon as you re turned, as soon as anyone is turned, the powers that be rush in like witness protection agents and whisk you off, never to see your family or friends again. Your life changes in ways you never imagined that it could.Like the fact that I was kidnapped last night. Totally didn t see that coming. Not being the Covenant-level assassin that I am (did I mention that already? I didn t get much of a choice in that either the profession I mean). Oh, and get this the creeps who grabbed me claim that my mentor/should-have-kept-it-professional boyfriend Trinity is the vampire equivalent to the anti-Christ. Nice. And to think it 's only Tuesday. But wait, it gets better. See, there is one fact about vampirism that everyone gets correct our bodies can t biologically process natural light. Past that, all I know is that if I don t partake of my usual dose of Icarus every seven days (provided via injection by the powers that be), I ll lose my existence as I know it. It allows me to bask in the sunlight, keeps us from exploding into flames and I ve heard rumors that it 's what makes us immortal. You know, little things. Now, since Head Creep removed the dosing disc from my arm, whether I had anything to do with it or not, I m guilty of betraying High Coven. This fact not only sucks (pun intended), it means I ve been condemned to death. An assassin condemned to death. Seems like kind of shitty deal if you ask me. I don t care that Head Creep is hot enough that he gives Christian Bale a run for his money. He claims that Icarus is part of some massive conspiracy, that vampires are a perverse mutation of beings from another universe, and that Trinity (along with some dark army he 's supposedly in charge of) plans to exterminate the human race. Of course, he says this will occur in less than a week. And damn, wouldn t you know he d kidnap me on day six of my dose.

I love the cover!
